REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
OCTOBER 23, 2012
Chairman Cole Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Tom Kelly, Cole Kelly, Elise Ryan, Peter Aldritt, and Jim Boettcher. Steve
Scharfenberg arrived after Approval of Minutes.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Brent Carron
STAFF PRESENT: Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent;
and Mitch Johnson, Recreation Supervisor
PUBLIC PRESENT:

APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Approved as presented.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS: Mitch Johnson reminded the commission that the Halloween Party
will be held on Saturday, October 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Chanhassen Rec Center and asked for
volunteers.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Tom Kelly moved, Boettcher seconded to approve the verbatim and
summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated September 25, 2012 as
amended by Cole Kelly on page 11 of the verbatim minutes. All voted in favor and the motion
carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to 0.
2012 PICNIC RESERVATION PROGRAM OVERVIEW. Jerry Ruegemer reviewed the 2012 picnic
reservation season statistics. Tom Kelly asked about no rental of Lake Susan on Sundays and making
sure that it's obvious to the public that the Al Klingelhutz Memorial Pavilion is the previously named
Hilltop shelter. Elise Ryan asked to see a breakdown by event at each location. Peter Aldritt asked where
the revenue goes. Chairman Cole Kelly asked when and if fees need to be reviewed.
RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS:
BANDIMERE DISC GOLF TOURNAMENT EVALUATION. Mitch Johnson provided highlights
from the first annual disc golf tournament held at the new Bandimere Park disc golf course on Saturday,
October 6n,. Tom Kelly seriously congratulated Mitch Johnson for an incredibly well run event.
Chairman Cole Kelly suggested adding a 40 or 50 and older category with possibly a seminar before the
tournament as a way to bring in more people.
CHANJAM PREVIEW. Mitch Johnson provided an update on this event, noting to date no bands have
signed up.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS. Elise Ryan asked for an update on the
playground vandalism.
Park and Recreation Commission Summary — October 23, 2012
COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS. None.
ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET. Chairman Cole Kelly applauded and thanked the City Council for
transferring $200,000 to finish the Rice Marsh Lake trail loop next year. Todd Hoffman provided updates
on the letter sent out regarding the Rice Marsh Lake trail loop, paving of trails in Riley Ridge Park and
along Highway 41, schedule for removal of portable restrooms, fall tree planting delayed due to drought
conditions, and information regarding Emerald Ash Borer.
Scharfenberg moved, Tom Kelly seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission meeting
was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
