Park & Recreation BACKGROUND Phone: 952.227.1120 Fax: 952.227.1110 The Chanhassen Athletic Association would like to hire a contractor to improve three Recreation Center existing batting cages at Lake Ann Park. The association completed a similar project 2310 Coulter Boulevard in 2011 at Lake Susan Park. All donations exceeding $500 must be approved by the Phone: 952.227.1400 City Council. The association has partnered with the city on many occasions to work Public Works towards improving local athletic facilities. The CAA, in consultation with area 7901 Park Place coaches, has identified the need for batting cage improvements at Lake Ann Park. Phone: 952.227.1300 Fax: 952227.1310 The Chanhassen Athletic Association would like to hire a contractor to remove the Senior Center 2.25 -inch posts surrounding the cage as well as the fabric on three sides leaving the Phone: 952.227.1125 outfield fence and posts. The contractor would install twelve 3 -inch O.D. posts Fax: 952.227.1110 cemented 4 feet in the ground. The cages would be suspended from the posts similar Web Site to those at Lake Susan Park. The hardware for suspension would be supplied by the www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us Association. Chanhassen is a Community for Life - Providing for Today and Planning for Tomorrow Park & Recreation Commission February 26, 2013 Page 2 The Association would hang the batting cage netting each spring after the city delivers it to the park and the city would be responsible for taking down the netting and storage each fall. The city also will be responsible for delivery of 5 tons of infield mix to the site to grade and improve drainage. The Dugout Club would install permanent batters boxes to ensure erosion does not occur in these areas. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Park and Recreation Commission recommend that the City Council accept this generous contribution of batting cage improvements from the Chanhassen Athletic Association for installation at Lake Ann Park. The Chanhassen Athletic Association would like to hire a contractor to improve the existing 3 batting cages at Lake Ann Park. The contractor will remove the 2.25" posts surrounding the cage as well as the fabric on 3 sides leaving the outfield fence and posts. The contractor would install 12 -3" o.d. posts cemented 4' in the ground. The cages would be suspended from the posts similar to those at Lake Susan Park. The hardware for suspension would be supplied by the Association. The Association would hang the batting cages each Spring after delivery to the Park by the City and the City would be responsible for taking down the cage and storage each Fall. The City would be responsible for delivery of 5 tons of infield mix to the sight to grade and improve drainage at the sight.
