Staff will notify each of the affected property owners about Mr. Burdick's request, and invite them to Monday night's 1 meeting. It is thought that this 1 will lead to less confusion and better identification of the route to the rear of the Target store and to the Target loading docks. 1 Sincerely, MTA-\03-i( William . "Jim" Burdick • 426 Lake Street Excelsior, Minnesota 55331 (612) 474 July 27, 1992 ' Mr. Todd Gerhardt ' Assistant City Manager City of Chanhassen Chanhassen, MN. 55317 Re: Monterey Street Name Change Dear Mr. Gerhardt, I am writing as a follow -up to our conversation pertaining to changing the short street adjacent to sane of our property fran Monterey to Kerber. It is our understanding that Kerber and Monterey will be aligned and a semaphore will be installed at the intersection of Kerber and 78th Street. This means that it is a good time to change the name of this very short street. Another reason to change the name at this time is that at present there is only one business place on this street, Chaska Tool. I have spoken with Dan Lund, the owner's son. He was receptive to the ' idea, but the decision as to their wishes lies with the father, who will not be back fran vacation for at least a week. When he returns, I will consult with him. Another reason to change the name at this time is that there is only one business place on the street, whereas it is quite likely that we will build buildings to house at least four and probably five or six different businesses on the approximately 100,000 square feet immediately to the north of Chaska Tool. This means that if the name were changed at a later date, it would effect these businesses as well as the one business presently located on the street. An example of why is necessary to change this name is that even the Villager when it carried a story about these semaphores being installed referred to one being installed at 78th Street and Kerber. It did not say anything about Monterey. Another reason is that trucks will be caning to Target and if they are driving down 78th Street fran east to west and watching the right hand side as drivers normally do, they will only see the name Kerber; they would have to look diagonally across the intersection to see the name Nbnterey. This would surely leave sane confusion with Target truck traffic. ' 1 1 1 1 Another reason why we think this name should be changed is that short streets always lead to confusion, much more direction giving, more U -turns etc., than one longer street with the same name. ' Please keep in touch with us at your convenience. One or both of us will be glad to appear before the Chanhassen Council on this matter. If at all possible, We would like to have this matter appear on the agenda ' fairly soon. Cordially yours, B.C. "JIM" BURDICK & BRIAN H. BURDICK R 1 BCB %lm 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
