REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
MAY 29, 2013
Chairman Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Cole Kelly, Elise Ryan, Brent Carron, Jim Boettcher, Rich Echternacht, and
Luke Thunberg
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Steve Scharfenberg
STAFF PRESENT:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent;
and Miranda Hopp, Park and Recreation Summer Intern
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
The agenda was approved with the following additions:
5. Discussion of Lighting Fields at Bandimere Park.
6. Discussion of Adding a Soccer Field at Westwood Church.
7. Discussion of Shelters at Neighborhood Parks.
8. Discussion of a Community Pool.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Todd Hoffman introduced Miranda Hopp, the Park and Recreation
Summer Intern. Jerry Ruegemer informed the commission that Mitch Johnson was attending the

Southwest Metro Magazine banquet representing Chanhassen’s 4 of July celebration which won the best
community festival award and asked to discuss the Al Klingelhutz dedication at Lake Ann Park on
th
Sunday, June 9.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Echternacht moved, Carron seconded to approve the verbatim and
summary Minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated April 23, 2013 as
presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0.
ESTABLISH 2014-2018 PARK AND TRAIL ACQUISITION AND DEVELOPMENT CAPITAL
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM CIP TOUR SCHEDULE.
Todd Hoffman reviewed details of the 5 year capital improvement program. Regarding tree replacement,
Chairman Kelly asked if the City is taking into account new water runoff requirements from the State.
Todd Hoffman stated he would ask the Water Resources Coordinator to speak to that issue at next
month’s meeting before continuing his review of the CIP. In discussing Bandimere Park, Chairman Kelly
asked Jerry Ruegemer to explain how resting and lighting will affect fields. Todd Hoffman continued
with his detailed review of the 5 year CIP program. Chairman Kelly asked staff to comment on the
Westwood Church soccer field, neighborhood park shelters and the possibility of a municipal pool. In
discussing next month’s tour, it was determined to visit Bluff Creek Drive, Westwood Church soccer field
site, Manchester Park site, pedestrian trail to Arboretum, and possible picnic shelter sites at neighborhood

parks. Todd Hoffman stated he would bring the commission to see the Highway 101 and Bandimere Park
construction that is currently underway.
RECREATION PROGRAMS: LAKE ANN PARK SUMMER SCHEDULE.
Jerry Ruegemer
provided an update on the summer schedule at Lake Ann Park. Commissioner Ryan asked about the
checklist to make sure plugs are in the boat and suggested game packages along with picnic rentals.
Commissioner Echternacht asked for clarification on maintenance and replacement costs for rental boats.
2013 SUMMER PROGRAMS.
Miranda Hopp reviewed the 2013 summer programs being offered.
SELF-SUPPORTING PROGRAMS: 2013 ADULT SOFTBALL UPDATE.
Jerry Ruegemer
provided an update on the adult softball league.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS.
None.
COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS.
None.
ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET.
Todd Hoffman pointed out that the City received two applications for
youth commissioners to the Park and Recreation Commission, discussed the dedication ceremony for the
Klingelhutz Pavilion, and Little Free Library. Commissioner Echternacht commented on the Memorial
Day ceremony.
Carron moved, Echternacht seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion
carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission was adjourned at
9:00 p.m.
