BOX 147 · CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 (612) 937-1900 · FAX (612) 937-5739 MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: SUB J: Todd Hoffman, Park & Recreation Director Dawn Beitel, Recreation Supervisor ~. ¢ January 17, 1996 Chanhassen Recreation Center I am happy to report that since the first of the year both room rentals and punch cards at the Chanhassen Recreation Center are really picking up. A promotional letter to all businesses and corporations is scheduled to go out this week highlighting the new rates for them, as well as several flyers promoting various activities that will take place there. As exciting as it has been to hear that word is getting out, we realize that there is still a large portion of our residents who have yet to discover the place. Weekly print ads in local papers as well as some free days have helped to promote us, along with increased use by local groups, private individuals, and businesses. Our best promotion is word of mouth by satisfied customers, so I am continuing to work with staff in the areas of customer service and marketing. Comment cards are available at the front desk and are sent out when damage deposits are returned or thank yous are sent. One other item that we have recently implemented is a complimentary punch card to give to first time visitors or potential new customers. The fitness room has especially seen an increase in use since the start of the year, partially due to the addition of 7 new pieces of strength equipment (one yet to come) and the stepmill. New Years resolutions and advertising have contributed as well. A small team of us have begun meeting about drop-in child care for the Recreation Center, establishing hours, fees, policies, etc. It is hoped that we will have 2-3 people hired to staff the child care area by the end of January or early February. Results of a survey conducted at the Recreation Center helped us in making many decisions; however, calls will be made to other community/recreation centers for additional information. Mr. Todd Hoffman January 18, 1996 Page 2 Overall, we are seeing some really positive things occurring at the Recreation Center. Many of our building issues have been settled (basketball hoops, base tiles) and now focus can shift primarily to upkeep of the facility and to increased awareness and use of all aspects of the facility. Cooperation with the Bluff Creek Elementary School has been key to operations this far, and will continue to be in the future.
