1 Approval of MinutesPARK & RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES REGULAR MEETING APRIL 23, 1996 5:30 p.m. Commission members met at City Hall to depart for site visits of Chanhassen Recreation Center, Minnewashta Parkway park land and Stone Creek Park. Regular Meeting The regular meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Vice Chairwoman Lash. Members present: Ron Roeser, Frank Scott, Fred Berg, Jan Lash, Jim Manders, Jane Meger and Mike Howe. Staff present: Todd Hoffman, Patty Dexter, J. J. Ryan and Mike Hammond. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved as presented. Public Announcements None Visitor Presentations None 1. Approval of Minutes Commissioner Berg corrected the minutes by noting that he was present at the March 26, 1996 meeting. Motion was then made by Commissioner Scott and seconded by Commissioner Roeser to approve the minutes of the March 26, 1996 meeting. All voted in favor. 2. New Business Election of Officers - Chair and Vice Chair Commissioner Lash was nominated to the position of Chairwoman. Commissioner Fred Berg was nominated to the position of Vice Chair. All commissioners voted in favor of the slate of officers and the motion passed unanimously. A discussion was held regarding the starting time for commission meetings. Following that discussion, Commissioner Roeser moved to change the commission's meeting time from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Commissioner Scott seconded. All voted in favor and the motion carried. A discussion was held regarding the potential future construction of a community center within the city of Chanhassen. A number of members of the commission stated they would be in attendance at a City Council work session on Monday night, April 29 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss community center proposals. e Confirmation of Site for Chanhassen Lions Club Community Playground - Chanhassen Recreation Center Upon discussion of two alternative locations for the playground, Commissioner Meger moved, to recommend the commission approve the location adjacent to the park shelter and instruct staff to coordinate requests for equipment proposals with the involvement of the Lions Club. Commissioner Berg seconded. All Voted in favor and the motion passed unanimously. 5. Program Reports Program reports were given on the Easter Egg Candy Hunt, the Easter Basket delivery, the summer softball program and senior citizen events. 6. Administrative Reports a. Exemption from no pets in the park ordinance - K9 Patrol. Commissioner Berg moved, that all K9 patrol dogs be exempt from the city's no pets in the park ordinance. Commissioner Manders seconded. All voted in favor and the motion passed unanimously. b. Budget and Revenue Report - First Quarter, 1996. The Budget and Revenue Report for Fund 410, Park Acquisition and Development, covering the months of January, February and March, 1996, was delivered to the commission. Director's Report. Commission member reports. Commission members gave a variety of reports including Commissioner Meger-Bluff Creek Steering Committee; Commissioner Roeser- Centennial Committee; Commissioner Scott-Strategic Planning Meeting; Commissioner Manders-Park Task Force; Commissioner Berg-District 112 Community Education Advisory Group. Commission members asked for a report on the progress of the Red-E- Mix site. Commissioner Berg requested a report on the feasibility of installing a drinking fountain on the east side of Kerber Boulevard at the entrance to Chanhassen Pond Park. All voted in favor and the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
