5f Park Pride DayCITY OF 690 COULTER DRIVE · P.O. BOX 147 · CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 (612) 937-1900 · FAX (612) 937-5739 MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: Todd Hoffman, Park and Recreation Director Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Supervisor May 16, 1996 SUB J: Park Pride Day Chanhassen's Annual Park Pride Day was Saturday, April 27. A total of 5 girl scout and brownie troops participated. Meadow Green, Rice Marsh Lake. Hidden Valley Trail, Chanhassen Pond, and Powerhill Park were all cleaned. The groups picked up enough garbage to fill the back of a city dump truck. Mayor Chmiel really made the day by crowning every child with a participant medal. The kids were very excited and felt good about their accomplishment. The medals are fun and should be continued. A total of 50- 75 kids and parents participated. A picnic lunch which included hot dogs, chips, and pop was served to everyone. Arbor month hats, t-shirts, and sweatshirts were raffled off, which added to the excitement. Park Pride Day is a fun event that helps beautify the city parks. The program should continue again next year. My recommendation is to shift the coordination from the Park and Recreation Department to Jill Sinclair, our environmental specialist. Jill coordinates many activities that day and it seems like a natural fit. I would certainly assist in coordinating the first year to make the transition easier. The decision can be made before the city starts its 1997 budget preparation. The participants enjoyed themselves again this year, for this worthwhile event. g:\park\jerry\96pkprid PROGRAM NAME: / fq~ ~)a V~'- QUARTERS FROGRAM IS OFFERED: SU SP Participants in each class Length of class (minutes) Class fee/session Length of class (in weeks) Meetings/Week REVENUE - -73- x # of participants EXPENSES A.
