BOX 147 · CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 (612) 937-1900 · FAX (612) 937-5739 MEMORANDUM TO: Todd Hoffman, Parks & Recreation Director FROM: Kara Wickenhauser, Senior Center Coordinator DATE: December 4, 1996 SUB J: Senior Center Activities Update Since the last activity report in late November, participation at the Chanhassen Senior Center has remained the same. At this time I am busy preparing for the Annual Holiday Social & Entertainment party on Saturday, December 7th. This year the party is being held at the Chanhassen Recreation Center, due to space limitations. We currently have 85 seniors registered, and are anticipating over 100 seniors. An invitation has been extended to the Chanhassen City Council, the Chanhassen Villager as well as Don Chimel and Nancy Mancino. This will be a wonderful event for the City to participate in, considering it is one of our larger events of the year. Besides working on the Holiday Social, I am also busy preparing for the spring and summer months of 1997. The Senior Expo committee has also started their meeting season and ! am once again participating on the Program Committee. I have enclosed my latest Chanhassen Senior News and Chanhassen Senior Center activity calendar for the months of December and January for your interest. I can hardly believe we are looking into 1997!! I am very excited and hopeful for a great New Year!! Christmas is just around the corner and the Chan- hassen Senior Center wants to begin this festive season with a complimentary Holiday Social & Entertainment. This event consists of FREE hor'dourvcs, entertainment, and door prizes.; "Barbara Lec & Sherry," an accordion and guitar duo, will entertain you and arc sure to be a hit! Please call 937-1900 ext. 145 to register for this wonderful event! The Holiday Social will be held at the Chanhassen Recreation Center due to space restrictions at the Senior Center. The Recreation Center is located off of Highway 5 and Galpin Blvd. Anyone who is uncertain of these directions may call the Senior Center for further instructions! 4 Tickets to Christmas Comej oin th/s wonderful play sponsored by the Chaska Commu- nity Theater and Valley Free Evangelical Church. This play is a musical/comedy about a singing family called the Richmond's, dating backto 1905. The Richmond's find themselves in several conflicts as they discover some hidden family secrets. The play will be on Friday, December 13 at the Chaska Civic Theater. The fee is $10 and includes your ticket and a chicken dinner served at the Chaska Community Center. Transportation will be provided through carpooling. We'll leave at 6:30 pm and return at 10 p.m. Mankato Celebration of Lights This trip will be a joint effort between the Chanhassen Senior Center and Travel Easy from Waconia. Come enjoy the delightful colors of Christmas! There will be a dinner ON YOUR OWN, with a guided Christmas lighting tour following. A coach bus will be provided. Monday, December 9 2:45 - 9:00 p.m. $17/person For more information regarding the Senior Center call 937-1900 ext. 145 MYSTIC LAKE CASINO TRIP Travel with us to Shakopee's Mystic Lake Gaming Center. Lunch will be on your own at the Casino's buffet or sit down restaurant. Fee includes coach bus, coffee and rolls, $2 discount on Casino's buffet luncheon, and 50% on all bingo packages. Register at the Senior Center by Jan. 16. Thursday, Jan. 23 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. $4/person Min/Max: 25/41 TAX AID ASSISTANCE A reminder that the Chanhas- sen Senior Center will once again sponsor tax aid assis- tance sessions in February, March and April. Times and dates have yet to be decided, but look for more information come spring! Dates and times can be found in the Senior Corner section in the Chan- hassen Villaser, as well as in the Senior Center spring newsletter. Call 937-1900 ext. 145 if you have any qnesfions. Keep in mind that you will need to gather infor- marion prior to attending the session. This includes your 1995 tax forms and returns. Ha ppy Holidays BOWLING New and experienced bowlers are welcome to join this group on Wednesdays from 10 am to I2 noon. Games are $1.50 each with complimentary shoes pro- vided by Chanhassen Bowl. This group bowls strictly for FUN! 5 5 ALIVE DRIVING COURSE Offered through AARP, this 8 hr. accident and traffic violation reduction course will be held on Feb. 5 & 6 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. A certificate of completion valid for 3 years will be provided for submission to your insurance company for the mature driver discount. Preregistration re- quired with an $8 fee. MOVIE OF THE MONTH The Senior Center shows popular movies once a month from 1-3:30 p.m. on the third Friday of every month. Please note the change from Tuesdays to Fridays. Upcom- ing movies are: Dec. 20 Cancelled Jan. 17 American President Feb. 21 Twister Mar. 21 How to Make an American Quilt 5 5 ALIVE REFRESHER COURSE Have you completed the g hour 55 Alive Mature Driving Course or has your 3 year certificate expired? Then register for this 4 hour refresher course offered through AARP. Upon completion, a 3 year certificate is issued for submittal to your insurance company for the mature driver discount. Preregistration required. Thursday, Dec. 12 5:30-9:30 p.m. Chanhassen Senior Center $8/person SA TURDA Y SPE CIALS Once a month the Chanhassen Senior Center provides a special activ- ity or catered meal with entertainment either during the day or at night. This quarter's specials look to be eventful Most dinner's range between $6 and $8 per person. Registrations for these specials are required to take place prior to the event.
