Director's Report
Turning out a packet with a two week turnaround is reminiscent of the commission's schedule in
the late 80's/early 90's. At that time the commission conducted regular meetings twice monthly.
When the land development review schedule leveled off, the commission was able to omit one
regular meeting per month.
Recreation Center News: Assistant City Manager Gerhardt and the Recreation Center staff
advocate the placement of a television monitor in the Recreation Center lobby. Requests for
this amenity are routine. Staff members are assembling a survey of patrons for presentation
to the commission next Tuesday. We are also considering installation of an aquarium in the
lobby area.
Patty Dexter is coordinating the receipt of proposals for interior decorating to compliment
existing conditions. The conference room, lobby, hallway and fitness room are the focus of
this effort.
· Work Being Held Over to 1997: The attached correspondence to Dale Gregory details
work items which are being carried over to the 1997 construction season.
Park Task Force: Bill Morris of Decision Resources and members of the Park Task Force
will speak to the city council on December 16. The topic of conversation will be the
approval of the Park Task Force community survey.
Lake Ann Ballfield Lighting Project: The contractor has installed 90% of the
underground conduit and is preparing to auger footings for the light standards. Work will
continue into January and February with the light poles being set and wiring completed.
Field #4 will be dedicated "Lions" field in the spring.

Facility Tours: Recreation Center Supervisors, Patty Dexter, and I conducted facility tours
on Tuesday, December 3. With the passing of the Chanhassen Recreation Center one year
anniversary, I want to ensure that we remain at the top of our game. These tours allow staff
to assess other facilities similar to the center in a variety of areas. Structural layout,
programming, administration, and maintenance are of special interest. Facilities toured
included the Minnetonka Community Center and Williston Road Complex, New Brighton
Family Service Center, Maplewood Community Center, Rosemount Community Center and
Armory, Apple Valley Community Center, and Dakotah Sioux Sport and Fitness.
