1996 Halloween Party
The 1996 Halloween Party was well attended again this year. A total of 300 kids were
preregistered and 80 more registered at the door, bringing the total number of kids and parents to
700-800. Registrations trickled in slowly and increased the day before the party. Human nature
is to put off registering until the last minute. In future years we will continue to register people at
the door. Having 3-4 registration tables available made the process more efficient.
The Recreation Center is an ideal location for hosting the Halloween Party. Having the ability to
divide the rooms creates many different opportunities. Using Community Rooms 1 & 2 for
refreshments worked well. The two rooms allowed participants more room to roam and to
socialize with their neighbors.
I will investigate the possibility of moving the Jaycee's games into the gym instead of one of the
community rooms. This would allow the haunted room to expand from 1-2 rooms. My only
concern with the games in the gym is that they may disturb the music or entertainment. If we
position the two groups on opposite sides of the gyms, we should be all right.
The AlphaBits performance was enjoyed by all. The group encouraged the parents and kids to
dance. The AlphaBits are a fun and entertaining group and I would book them again.
The hay ride had long lines again this year, despite adding a second hay rack. Heavy rain the
week of the Halloween Party made the ballfield areas unavailable for the hay rides, so the course
was moved to Coulter Boulevard. This worked out fine. Next year, with favorable conditions,
the hay rides will be on the Recreation Center grounds.
