5b Director's ReportCITY OF 690 COULTER DRIVE · P.O. BOX 147 · CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 (612) 937-1900 · FAX (612) 937-5739 MEMORANDUM TO: Park and Recreation Commission ~X"// FROM: Todd Hoffman, Park and Recreation Director DATE: September 18, 1996 SUB J: Director's Report 1997 Budget Proceeding: I presented the department's 1997 budget requests to the city council on the evening of September 16. Additional meetings are scheduled in October and November. Ice Arena: Important meetings are being held with the HRA on September 19 and the city council on September 23. Commission members have been copied on relative correspondence. Information has been mailed to you or is included in this packet. Commissioner Berg is assigned to the September 23, 1996 city council meeting. Roundhouse Park: The city council approved the commission's recommendation for the development of Roundhouse Park. Congratulations to all commissioners and a special thanks to Chairwoman Lash for speaking on behalf of the commission at the September 19 city council meeting. A grading plan is currently being developed. It is our hope to grade the majority of the site prior to freeze-up. Recreation Center Lions Playground and Patio: The city council authorized the preparation of plans and specifications for this work. I will be working with Lions Ed Gingsbach and Lowell Vetter on the playground design. Instant Web/United Mailing Temporary Soccer Field: This temporary field is currently being graded. It is the department's hope to apply seed prior to the end of September. Chanhassen Recreation Center: The city's turf consultant is concerned that the grass at the Recreation Center is not simply dormant, but dead. A "mature" strand of grass is capable of experiencing a complete dormant period. After 3 months of active growing (September 15 - October 15, 1995 and May - June of 1996), the Recreation Center grass may not be mature enough to have weathered the drought. Cross your fingers - it would be a long summer in 1997 without the use of the new fields. We will be conducting additional tests to gather more information. g:\park\th\directors.rpt CITY OF 690 COULTER DRIVE · P.O.
