Director's Report
St. Hubert's community Soccer Field: A week after your July 23 meeting, Dave Bangasser
was in city hall with a sketch plan to move the soccer field north of the trail. Mr. Bangasser
works with Opus Corporation and sits on St. Hubert's Building Committee. I do not believe
that "re-visiting" the issue is going to lead anywhere. Nevertheless, considering the applicant
invested two hours at your last meeting defending the southern location, it was worth
mentioning.
Concorde, Massachusetts History Signs: The Concorde Historical Committee is responsible
for the history markers atop their street signs. I have not been able to reach Mr. Osgood for
the past two weeks. The continuous beeps on his answering machine is a good indication he
is on an extended summer vacation.
Minnetonka Regional Park: On Thursday, August 15, metropolitan Park and Recreation
Directors were hosted by Hennepin Parks on a tour of the new 200 acre Minnetonka Regional
Park. The site is located east and west of County Road 44 just north of State Highway 7.
The park is less than 5 miles from Chanhassen. Highlights of the park include: expansive
picnic areas, a filtered and chlorinated swimming "pond," concessions and bathhouse,
waterfront access with boat launch, fishing piers and docking slips, and a visitor center (Vern
Gagne's former home).
Cost of development:
Land Acquisition
Phase I Development
Total
$10,000,000(including 2 Supreme Court and numerous District Court cases)
$ ?,000,000
$17,000,000
The park will open in the spring of 1997 and is worth a look.

Park Referendum Task Force: Members begin meeting again (they took the month of July
off) on August 22. Meetings will continue on a twice monthly schedule (2nd and 4th
Thursdays) until the referendum occurs. Please join the Task Force at any of their meetings.
Recreation Center Building and Grounds Punch List: The speed at which BorSon is closing
out this project brings new meaning to the story of the "Tortoise and the Hare." I remain in
contact with Greg Szypulski, Project Manager, on a weekly basis.
