Senior Center Activities Update
The month of February has brought in beautiful weather and as a result lhe attendance for various
events and regular activities at the Chanhassen Senior Center have increased. I am looking
forward to the spring months of programming, as well as welcoming home all the seuiors fi'om
their long extended winter trips! Currently I am working on summer and fall programming and
completing any loose ends in my spring programming. All the activity rosters for our daily
activities have been updated and word processed, along with the continual everyday updating of
the Senior Center mailing list. I can now set my sights on some larger projects that I would like
to pursue.
The first project I would like to pull together is a quarterly intergenerational program that utilizes
a variety of youth organizations in the community. I have been in contact with Kathy Nelson
from the Chanhassen Villager and have discussed the possibilities with this project. Once all my
contacts have been made and all the programs are set up, Kathy will then cover this project and
promote it in the newspaper. The Senior Center has already contacted and worked in cooperation
with the Chanhassen Chiefs 4-H Club, Bluffcreek Elementary 5th and 6th graders, and the
Westwood Community Church Youth Group. I am now actively seeking other contacts and
options for this specific project.
The second project I am interested in organizing is a Senior Awareness Week. The month of
May is dedicated as "Older American's Month," and as a Senior Center Coordinator I feel it is
important to take time to recognize the seniors in our community and thank them for all the
contributions they make to enhance our community. I have collected information from other
Senior Center's around the area who have run similar programs and hope to form a senior
committee to help organize this event for next year.
Besides the Intergenerational and Senior Awareness Week projects, I also hope to organize a
Health Fair or Health Week program for next year. Listed below are the average activity
numbers I have collected for the last month. The numbers are at a slight decrease with the cold
winter weather and the number of seniors out of town traveling.
