Todd Hoffman, Park and Recreation Director
FROM:
Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Supervisor

SUB J: Teen Survey
The teen survey was developed to better ask the question, "What do the teens of our area
desire or need lbr recreation opportunities?" Our city, as well as many others, have had
challenges in offering recreation programs for teens. The survey seemed to be a perf~c!
opportunity to "pick the brains" of the kids in our area. What are they looking tbr? What
recreational opportunities would satisfy them?
The last teen survey administered was during the 1990 school year. Kitty Sitter and Laura
Kaiser representing School District 112; Heather Braggens, representing the City ot'
Chaska; and myself developed and administered the survey lbr Grades 6-8. The 1400
surveys were distributed to Chanhassen, Chaska, and Jonathan Elememary schools and
Chaska Middle School, west and east. Through the AA (Advisor/Advisee) program al
the schools, a completed survey achievable rate of nearly 100% was obtained
Dave Hartley of Hartley and Associates, the city's computer consultant, developed a
computer program that will allow the data entered to be analyzed. Currently, the data
entry from the 1400 surveys is nearly completed. The next step is to dissect the data and
create a recreation plan.
The information collected will be very useful in planning recreational opportunities for
the teens in our area. I will give you a full report when the data and statistical
information is completed.
