Dear Steve:
Mayor Nancy Mancino has made the following inquiries. Why is the CCHA referred to both as
the Chaska Community Hockey Association and the Chaska/Chanhassen or Chanhassen/Chaska
Hockev Association? What is the "official" name of the organization as recorded with the State
of Minnesota? If the name is indeed the Chaska Community Hockey Association, you are
juggling a political hot potato. I assume the association is cognizant of the implications in this
scenario.
It xvill be advantageous to resolve this issue prior to prog-ressing further. Please advise me on
how you would like to proceed.

Project Description:
Roundhouse Park is one of thc c~ty's newest parks. Located at the northwest intersection of
Minnewashta Parkway and Kings Road, this 8 acre site contains arrlple room tbr a variety of
amenities. The park is named atier the rouno house on the site which was originally used as a
water supply tank tbr steam locomotives.
The park is home to 500+ t;~et of beautiful shoreline on Lake Minnewashta. Lake Minnewashta
is the largest water body located wholly or partially within the City of Chanhassen. Minnewashla
Regional Park provides public access to this water resource from its east side. 11 is our hope to
compliment this existing access with the lakes first public fishing pier. Those fishing would catch
pan fish, northern pike, and largemouth bass, and rough fish from the pier.
A proposed park layout is attached to this application. The plan depicts the fishing pier and a
small neighborhood beach along the park's lakeshore. A large residential neighborhood could
access the pier by utilizing the Minnewashta Parkway trail. This neighborhood is isolated from
other recreational resources by State Highways 5 and 7. A parking lot with approximately 24
stalls will also be available for park visitors. A signed pedestrian crosswalk exists at the
intersection of the Parkway and Kings Road.
The City of Chanhassen believes this site is highly suitable for the installation of a Department of
Natural Resources fishing pier. We respectively request that you consider this application.

The Park Department dozer was bid out both as a new and a used machine with 500 hours or
less. Ziegler, Inc. (Caterpillar) had the only bid on a used dozer, which is the same new
dozer the Park Department rented in 1996. Purchasing the used caterpillar with only 500
hours from Ziegler, Inc. rather than a new John Deere saves $15,000.00. This is definitely
the best buy. It will be a two year purchase with $45,000.00 paid in 1997 and the balance of
$36,000.00 in 1998. Paying $5,000.00 less than the budgeted amount of $50,000.00 for the
dozer offsets the tractor for the Park Department being over budget by almost $4,000.00. It
was determined that a 4-wheel drive instead of a 2-wheel drive tractor was needed. This is
why the tractor went over the budgeted amount.
Purchasing the vehicles and equipment from the vendors with the low bids and quotes
meeting all specifications is recommended. The total amount budgeted in 1997 for these
units and previously purchased units is $393,000.00. The total amount including sales tax for
all the vehicles and equipment being purchased is $366,471.31. The only remaining add-on
equipment to be purchased is emergency lighting and interior accessories of approximately
$6,000.00 for the Fire Marshal's vehicle and tool boxes and hitches for pickups at an
estimated $2,000.00. The total amount needed would then be $374,500.00 which is well
under the $393,000.00 budgeted.
Price quotes were also received by the Park Superintendent for a utility vehicle to be used in
the parks and downtown for weed spraying, garbage collection, ball field maintenance and
general park maintenance. This piece of equipment is funded through the Downtown Budget-
800.

Dear Mr. Ruegermer,
Thank you for allowing the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District
participate in the Chanhassen February Festival, on February 15, 1997. You and
the rest of the Chanhassen staff were very accommodating. It was easy for us to
set up and meet people.
We were delighted with the turn out. Who would guess so many people would go
out in the middle of winter to ice fish with their neighbors? It was a great
opportunity to talk people who clearly care about surface waters. We chatted with
many about water management issues--and we gave away a lot of bobbers!
Congratulations on an excellent event and, again, thank you for letting us be there.
