AUGUST 26, 1997
The regular meeting was called to order on August 26, 1997 at 7:30 p.m. The following members
were present: Chair Jan Lash, Vice-Chair Fred Berg, Commissioners Mike Howe, Jim Man&rs,
Ron Roeser, Jane Meger, and Rod Franks. Staff present: Todd Hoffmam Jerry Ruegemer, Patty
Dexter, and Mark Fahning.
The agenda was approved as presented. There were no public announcements or visitor
presentations.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Meger moved, Commissioner Roeser seconded to
approve the minutes of July 29, 1997 as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
ACCESSIBILITY INQUIRY, GREENWOOD SHORES PARK: The staff report on this
item was presented to the commission. This item ;vas brought to light due to a citizen complaint
over the lack of reasonable public access to Greenwood Shores Park. Chair Lash requested
feedback fi'om each commission member. The question of which of the existing no parking signs
are unnecessary was raised, but not resolved. Upon conclusion of discussion, Commissioner
Berg moved and Commissioner Roeser seconded to recommend appointment of an accessibility
consultant to prepare a feasibility report detailing the necessary steps to bring Greenwood Shores
Park into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. All voted in favor and the
motion carried.

Review Open Eligibility Rule, Women's Adult Softball League: Following a brief
discussion, Commissioner Roeser moved and Commissioner Manders seconded the
extension of the open eligibility for the Adult Women's Softball program through the 1998
summer season. The league will remain with the Park & Recreation Commission's
recommendation of only allowing 12 teams. Teams from Chanhassen receive priority over
teams consisting of outside players. All voted in favor and the motion carried.

COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS: None
COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS: A variety of issues were discussed by the
commission. Among them were:
· The upcoming School District 112 referendum.
· The discussion of an art show to be possibly incorporated with the February Festival.
· Issues of maintenance pertaining to the center median at the Highway 5 overpass.
· The benefit of public/private partnerships or public partnerships.
· The success ora nature preserve located adjacent to an elementary school in Prior Lake.
