Activities Update
Currently I am busy planning activities, special events, trips and educational courses for 1998.
Since September I have been working in conjunction with Chaska and Waconia Comrnunity
Education's and Westview Acres in Waconia, regarding trip planning. Both community
education programs have had limited senior trips planned in the past few years, due to a shortage
of staff hours to man this responsibility. As a result Gay Mattson from Chaska Community
Education approached me with an idea of pooling together transportation between Waconia,
Chaska and Chanhassen. Each organization would then take a turn planning a joint trip once
every four months. We have run this cooperative since September and all seems to be running
smoothly. Each organization benefits from the fact that a trip should never have to be canceled if
their registration is low. Pooling from three different communities should almost guarantee a bus
load per trip.
Other than activity and trip planning I am also busy working xvith Sham'fin-A1 JaW and the CAP
Agency fine tuning details regarding the congregate dining program. A list close to 30 volunteers
has been collected for the Kitchen Coordinator, Joyce Hon'. A formal training session for these
vohmteers was organized a few weeks ago with only about one-half in attendance. As a result,
another training session will be organized for the nexv year for anyone who xvas unable to attend
the first training. Numbers for the congregate dining program have been averaging roughly about
15 people a day, Monday - Friday. The largest number we have had is 43 people, on Tuesday,
November 18th I will hand in a formal report for December once the attendance numbers are
tabulated for the month of November.
Attached to this memo is the Senior Center's December / January schedule FYI. I have also
attached the average numbers for our daily activities and trips dating back to September.
