Between 600-700 kids and parents attended the event. The participation numbers are similar to those from the previous year. The Wonderful World of Woody (Tom Strohmyer) got both the children and the parents involved in songs, magic tricks, and even some safety tips. "Woody" was having a great show until a woman instructed him to tell the audience that the pre-school age children were about to start the candy hunt. The woman told Tom, "They told me to tell you to make an announcement," although neither you nor I asked the woman to do this. This false information caused some confusion and the entire group of pre-school age children left the performance. All aside, I would recommend the Wonderful World of Woody again for next year. The volunteers from the Boy Scouts and the Minnetonka National Honor Society were a great help in setting up and tearing down. Volunteers provide such a great service at these types of special events. I recommend that the Easter Egg Candy Hunt continue to be held at the Chanhassen Recreation Center. It offers great flexibility lbr all weather conditions, and has ample room for entertainment. The candy hunt was held in the grassy area on the north side of the building and provided enough space for all the participants and observers to feel comfortable and not get squashed. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 1999 Hold the event at the Chanhassen Recreation Center Emphasize the performance on the flyers Eliminate designated times for the different ages on the flyers Note on the flyers that the Easter Egg Candy Hunt start times may vary depending on the performance length · Provide volunteers helping inside and with crowd control an informational sheet for commonly asked questions · Add adaptive section to the coloring contest and candy hunt for special needs groups. g:\park\easter\98CandyHuntEval The Cit), of Chanhassen.
