The Chanhassen Senior Center continues to work in coordination with Chaska Community Education, Waconia Community Education, Westview Acres in Waconia and the Eden Prairie Senior Center, regarding trip planning for 1998. The total Senior Center attendance has been steady, but looks to increase with summer and fall months ahead. With the addition of Congregate Dining, daily attendance should only increase. Congregate Dining participation has also been holding steady. The lowest attending month for the year was May, with an average of 7 people per day. Listed below is the monthly meal averages since October 31, 1997. Other activities that the Senior Center is promoting this upcoming summer includes Intergenerational Youth programming. The Senior Center has been busy working with Denise Gustafson, Director of Intergeneratioal Living and Healthcare, Inc., out of Chaska. Denise's role has been to locate youth groups within the Chanhassen area who are interested in working with seniors. After she contacts a group that is interested, the Senior Center then organizes a date and recruits seniors to participate in the designated activity. All the activities are planned jointly between the two programs. Attached you will find a 1998 schedule of youth / senior events. In addition to trip planning I have also been working with Sharmin A1-Jaff and the Senior Commission to complete the 1998 Senior Commission Strategic Plan. This plan should be completed within the next month. A copy will be sent to your attention once completed. Listed below are the daily activity numbers, the monthly attendance numbers, the monthly Congregate Dining numbers and trip registration numbers. Denise Gustafson, the Program Director for Intergenerational Living and Healthcare, approached the Senior Center last year to participate in a Art Program with a group of 5th graders in Chaska. Due to the positive response to the program the Chanhassen Senior Center decided to sponsor it's own events through the Intergenerational Living and Healthcare program. There has been an array of activities that have already taken place, with several others upcoming. Listed below are the events that have already taken place, as well as the ones planned for the upcoming months. Some of the Intergenerational programs were organized strictly by myself and are noted with an asterisk. The Chanhassen Villager has already been out three times to cover these programs. We hope this will help create a positive attitude for seniors who have formed negative attitudes toward today's children, as well as children in the community who have any misconceptions about aging. 1998 Intergenerational Programming Schedule Girl Scouts Bowling Outing at Philly's - February 1998 Chanhassen Early Child Development Center -Cooking Program -April 1998 (3 sessions) *Westwood Community Church Youth Group Pizza Party - April 1998 Girl Scouts Hand -N- Foot Card Party - May 1998 *Chanhassen Bible Study Group Chinese Meal - May 1998 *Women's Club Field Trip to the Early Childhood Development Ctr. - June 1998 Boy Scouts Miniature Golf- June 1998 *Westwood Bible Study Group - Summer Grill-Out Party - July 1998 Girl Scouts Art Program - August 1998 (5 sessions) *Boy Scouts Bowling Outing - November 1998 *Girl Scout Holiday Activity - December 1998 The City of Cha,hmsen.
