To show our appreciation, a short ceremony involving Mr. Carlson, Chanhassen Park and Recreation, and the soccer association is in the works for early to mid- October. During these seasons when field use is at a premium, we are very grateful for the temporary usage of this property. When I have confirmed a date and time that is convenient for Mr. Carlson, you will be notified. With the on-going construction, a temporary walk route (see attached map) has been established. Please continue to monitor this situation, lending assistance where appropriate. To date, thanks go out to: Helen Merchant, Chanhassen Elementary School Principal for managing the establishment of the temporary xvalk route; David Selinski, Carver County Deputy for coordinating extra public safety; Anita Benson, Charles Folch, and Mike Wegler for cross walk marking and temporary signage (extra stop sign at Market & 77th); Dale Gregory and his crew for temporary fencing and walk route signage. Thanks again for the quick response in this time of need. C: City Council Public Safety Commission Park and Recreation Commission Helen Merchant Dave Selinski file g:\park\th\TempSchooIWalkZone Dear Parents: We are eager to begin the new school year with safety in mind for the children who live west of Kerber Boulevard. Because the City Center park construction project impacts the walking route in your area, the City of Chanhassen and the Carver County Sheriff's Department have joined Chanhassen Elementary in identifying a safe alternate route to school. We have attached a map which highlights a temporary ~valking route for the fall season. There will be a public safety officcr along this route during the first week of school. Temporary ~valking route and additional crossing signs will be posted. Safety patrol students will be assisting students who are crossing Kcrber Boulevard. We are anticipating that the walk path behind Chanhassen Elementary will be completed by December 1st. We need your help to make this a safe start to our school year. During the next couple of days, please: · familiarize your child with this route. · remind your child to leave home earlier than in the past. This route will takc approximately ten minutes longer. If you have any questions about this walking route change, please call Itelen at 934-5246. Sincerely, Helen Merchant Todd Hoffman David Selinski CITYOF September 4, 1998 Ms. Phyllis Bofferding 8055 Timber Lakes Drive Eden Prairie, MN 55437 Thank you for you continued care of the bluebird houses at Kerber Pond Park. We would be glad to relocate two of the houses in hopes of increasing nesting success. After you install the orange tape, please call Dale Gregory, Park Superintendent, at 723-0841. Dale will then instruct a member of the park maintenance staff to perform this work. Regarding the geese, we have considered the option of not mowing the opening to the water. However, the grass barrier between the pond and shore is so narrow in spots that the geese are free to access the trail even without the opening. Many of our "human" walkers enjoy the opportunity to access the water's edge. Phyllis, again, thank you for all your care and concern for Kerber Pond Park. One of the main goals of our 1998 Parks, Trails and Open Space Plan is to ensure coordination of existing and planned facilities in order to provide the most efficient and accessible system possible ~r Carver County residents. The information that you provided for us earlier this year helped to aate our current draft plan. We would like to have a follow-up meeting for you to review the policies and vision that we have developed. SRF Consulting has helped the County develop this plan, and they will be facilitating this meeting. Please bring relevant materials for parks and trails from your agency to compare with the work the County has done. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 16, at 9:00 am at the Carver County Courthouse in Chaska. We will be meeting in the Assessors Conference Room in the Administration Building. Please refer to the attached map for directions. We anticipate that th~ meeting will last nn longer than one and a half hours. We appreciate your attendance at this meeting, and hope that a coordinated effort in parks, trail and open space planning can continue in the future. Please call Paul Moline at 361-1825 with your plans to attend or if you have any questions. Sincerely, 7./ Paul Maline, County Planner .... The reason for my inquiry is to determine the Lion's position regarding your ongoing projects with the city. As outlined in my recent correspondence to the city council, I am proposing that the Recreation Center Playground project be abandoned. This decision would allow the $26,000 of Lion's donations currently held in escrow to be dedicated to the Lake Ann Ballfield Lighting Project. I trust you received copies of this earlier correspondence. What is the Lion's position on this proposal? Please drop me a note, stop by, or call with your response. Actually. in speaking with Park & Recreation Director Todd Hoffman, we agreed that the Park & Recreation Commission would be the proper forum to address this at this point, and not the Public Safety Commission. Therefore, if you wish to address this. Mr. Hoffman advises that you are welcome to attend and provide this as part of the "visitor presentation" portion of the agenda. I hope my letter is on target or of some help to the trail system development. Third, and this actually came about today. After last year's girls' tennis season, I resigned as head coach thinking I would relax until I retired. Well, today the school called and asked ifI would do the ninth grade coaching now that funding had been approved for this fall. My question - are either of the courts at Chanhassen Elementary or Bluff Creek/CC open after school on a regular basis? I would need them at least three or four late afternoons a week. Most likely they will be used by the Chaska's tennis program - but I thought I would ask. I will call you or Jerry in the next day or two. Thanks Tom Kotsonas CCHA Newsletter Promoting Youth Hockey In Our Communities Help Needed for New Arena The CCHA is still looking for volunteers to help build the penalty boxes, player benches, and score and time keeping box. We also need volunteers to help install the glass. This is part of the Association's fund raising commitment to the City of Chaska, so if you would like to help, please call Paul Borons at 448-7948. Also, we are in need of a cabinet maker to build the display case for the recognition plaque in the new arena. Contact any Board member if you are interested in helping with this project. Open Board Positions At the August 3, 1998 Board meeting, the Tournament Director position was filled by a Board vote. Paul Berens is back for two more years. Welcome back Paul, we missed you! We are still accepting applications for the Director of Communications position. If you are interested, contact any Board member or send correspondence to the return address on the newsletter. Jersey Update The Bc~.~ voted to accept a new design for the jerseys this year. In an attempt to cut the cost for each player, the sponsor and player names will not be pdnted on the jerseys. Players will be permanently assigned a number, and the jerseys will be used for two years. In lieu of pdnting the sponsor's names on the jerseys, banners will be pdnted and distributed to the teams.
