Lake Ann Park Large Group Admission Policy
The summer of 1998 was the first summer gate attendants were not employed at
Lake Ann. Not having a gate fee enabled the concession/boat rental operation to
have a record sales year. However, with the increase in participation at Lake Ann,
it put a strain on the lifeguards at the beach. Many groups made Lake Ann a
destination for their field trips, which is great. However, it did create some
situations we were not entirely prepared for. After the conclusion of the sunmaer
season, John Raby (Minnetonka Community Education and Services), Marty
Walsh (Carver County Parks), and myself sat down and brainstormed to come up
with some workable solutions. Some of our surrounding neighboring
communities have experienced the same challenges xvith large groups. That is
why John and Marty were invited.
Criteria was developed that will prepare our agencies for larger groups. Our
number one goal is to have groups call ahead and make the necessary
arrangements so we can prepare lifeguards and concession staff. A facility use
permit will be generated with the following information.
· A group/bus is defined as a group 24 persons or more
· Group/bus cost - $25 announced
$50 unannounced*
*unannounced groups/buses may be denied
because daily capacities may have been
reached.
· Groups may either pay in advance at City Hall or at the concession
building at Lake Ann.
· Groups must have at least a 10-1 ratio of participants to chaperones.
Chaperones must remain with or in close proximity to groups.
· Groups of 150 or more will be required to pay for extra lifeguards at
$12 hour per lifeguard - 2 hour minimum.
· I week notice required to properly staff.
· Have established hours for groups to attend.
· A phone number will be listed for groups to check in case of
inclement weather.

The following information was developed to better our service and efficiency at
Lake Ann Beach. The Park and Recreation Commission will review the
information and may add or delete any of the items. I will redefine the policy as
needed and will have it in place by next summer.
