Dear Mr. Raymond:
I am sorry to hear of your accident at City Center Park. The footing you fell into
was dug to accommodate the concrete border. It is the contractor's intent to
minimize hazards within the construction site, however all hazards cannot be
completely avoided. I have instructed the contractor to backfill these footings.
I hope you recover from your injury quickly. Please visit the park again, upon its
completion. It will be filled with walking paths much more enjoyable than the
one you experienced on September 14.
Sincerely,

On Monday Morning of September 14, 1998, myself and a friend ~vere out for a early
morning walk on Kerber Blvd.. We decided to cut through the public school yard up to
Laredo Drive. It was still quite dark so we follo~ved a path that avoided most of the
construction. We came upon a chain length fence and decided to walk aromxd the
barricade_ We came across a squm'e foundation; in which The pound appeared feathered
up to the top of the fom~dation. We did not see the danger and thought it would be safe
to walk over it. Unfortunately i ~epped into a ravine dugom by a backhoe that was
around the foundation. I severly sprained my ankle, I thank God I didn't break my leg or
yet hit my head on the foundation. My fi~iend and I estimated that the dugout was more
than two feet deep.
My question is: Why was this site not completely roped off or fenced? We did not see any
sign or post that indicated to stay away from the site. What i.fthis had happen at 7:30pm
or 8pm and a small child was cutting tkrough to get home and he had fallen into the
dugout, the child could have been severely/.ujured and possibly list for hours if
unsuperdsed.
I~aow now t-h-~IXflb--~rd n---tf ah-/~iB~k-a~' a
Since the construction behind the building is still in process, please put up reflecting stakes
and rope or a cone, something visual for a child and au adult to see that the area is
hazardous. I would not want another person to get injured. Thank you for your time.

Dear Dave:
It is with a good deal of disappointment and frustration that I write this letter. When
we spoke in late July, we had agreed that I could expect two of our playground
projects to be completed in the first half of September. The other txvo would follow
in the second half of September. I have informed citizens, council, and commission
members of this schedule. Yet, as of today, September 17, no work has be=man.
I have been forced to change my previous promise. I am noxv informing people that
all four of the projects will be complete by October 15, 1998. I trust that you can
abide by this schedule.

Mr. Todd Ingram, Vice President

Dear Mr. Ingram:
I am deeply concerned about the schedule on the Bandimere and City Center Park
projects. You have agreed to fully and satisfactorily complete the projects by
November 1, 1998. Both of these parks are far from complete, and yet, most of
the past t~vo "warm and dry" weeks little work has been completed at City Center
Park. I have informed Mr. Bob Peterson that in recognition of the City delaying
the start date at City Center Park, we will provide some flexibility on the
completion of that park. However, please do not misunderstand this statement. It
does not imply that Ingram Excavating can put City Center Park at the bottom of
your project list. Additionally, it is our expectation that Bandimere Park will be
completed by November 1, 1998.
Todd, last week when we talked, you informed me that following the placement of
the fabric under the skating rink, Ingram Excavating would be "hitting this job
hard." I am disappointed to see that this has not been the case. With 38 days
remaining on our contract, I trust you agree that the rate of completion needs
attention. Please have Mr. Peterson deliver to my office an updated schedule of
your planned work at his earliest convenience.
Thank you for your continued service to the City of Chanhassen.

Pee Wee News Jim Liddell
Regis~ation - Our registration numbers are very much what they were tast year with 67 Pee Wee's registered
thus far. Last year we had 68. We had very few Pee Wees drop out over the Summer, which we attribute to
keeping the skaters interested through the Summer STP Program, Rink Rats and Chaska Training Camp. Last
year we had 21 skaters drop out over the summer and this year there has been less than a handful. We will
continue to accept registrations through tryouts.
Tryouts - Tryouts start Saturday, September 26th~ ^11 should have received a copy of the tryout process and
schedule in the mail. You should also find this infon*nation in this newsletter. Please plan to come to CCC at
least 30 minutes pdor to the time specified. Parents: Please come in with your skater to be certain that he/she is
registered and receives two pullover jerseys. The two pullovers will be the same number, but a different co,or.
The skaters throughout the tryout process will wear the same pullovers. Please return these pullovers to me
once tryouts are complete. We will then have a bde~f_Pedo,d for parental information and questions in the
Community Room of CCC. This will start promptly 15 minutes pdor to the three Saturday 9/26 tryout sessions.
I
We will neea volunteer a.~is~ance ounng me tryout process. The duties will consist of on-ice assistance du~ing
the ddll portion, and gate & timekeeper assistance dudng the scrimmage portion. We will need a total of 20
volunteer hours of on-ice assistance and 75 hours ~)f garb & timekeeper assistance. This requires a
commibnent from everyonel! Please review the schedule and call me at 470-0633 with the date and times
that you can assist. We want these tryouts to go smoother than in previous years. We need your assistance.
Team Meetings - Once tryouts are complete and our Pee Wee teams have been formed, I would suggest team
managers contact Deb Shafranski @ 448-7376 to set up meetings at the CCC. The Community Center would
like to establish single point contact with the CCHA for meeting room reservations this year.
Mouthguards - It is essential that our skaters wear colored and tethered mouthguards anytime that they are on
the ice. Our local orthodontic specialists have again volunteered to provide custom fit mouthguards for every
Chaska skater. Please bdng your skater to the Chaska Orthodontic Clinic at 1580 White Oak Ddve on October
3rd between 10:00 AM and Noon. This is the time and date they have set aside to take the custom mold of our
Pee Wee skaters. I will pick-up the finished mouthguards a week later and distribute to the team coaches or
managers.
Team Practices - We are going with a Pee Wee "A", "BI", "B2" and a "C" team this year. The second sheet of
~ce will afford us more practice time than ever before. Our A & B teams will receive 75 hours of practice and
game hours. This is a 21% increase over last year. The C team will see a 20% increase to 57 hours. Team
~ractices will start in October.
The Distdct 6 Ice Draw is the first week of October. Please let me know of special events such as an a~l school
band concert, so that we schedule accordingly. With this knowledge before the Ice Draw, we will avoid potential
conflicts with other activities.
Team Tournaments - The tournaments for this years Pee Wee teams has been set for the A & B teams. The C
tournaments are being posted a little slower, so not all are confirmed as yet. The schedule thus far looks like:
Pee Wee A Pee Wee B Pee Wee B2 Pee Wee C
11/27 Chaska 11/27 Chaska 11/27 Richfield 12/4 Buffalo
1/8 CI0quet 12/12 Man kato 12/18 Cloquet
1/30 Alexandria 1/23 Detroit Lakes 1/30 Silver Bay 1/15 Chaska
2/4 New Hope 2/6 Alexandria 2/4 Maple Grove
Beyond confirmation of the team's tournaments, we have all the hotel reservations in place for away
tournaments. We selected Holiday Inn Holidomes' where available and like hotels elsewhere.

Trail dedicated.
An enthusiastic group of people made up of nearby Chanhassen residents, City Council, Park and
ReCreation Commission members, and city staff took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 29
to dedicate the completed Highway 101 trail south of Highway 5. The trail was made possible by the
park, open space and trail referendum of 1997.
