MEMORANDUM

Todd Hoffman, Park and Recreation Director
FROM: Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Supervisor
DATE: December 10, 1998
SUB J:
1998/99 Outdoor Skating
Last year's pattern of warm weather appears to be repeating itself. With the warm
weather, park maintenance staff has not begun to flood any of the outdoor rinks.
Once frost is in the ground and we experience cold temperatures, flooding will
begin. With the holiday break approaching, we will be hard pressed to have ice
available. However, everything will be done to have ice by Christmas (weather
permitting).
As you know, Chanhassen will rent portable trailers for warminghouses again this
winter. I have them scheduled for delivery next Wednesday, December 16. Park
maintenance crews will prepare the trailers for the season late next week with a
training seminar with seasonal staff set tentatively for Monday, December 21.
I am still seeking applications for seasonal rink attendants. Currently 8 workers
are hired and I am looking for more. An employment ad was placed in the
Chanhassen Villager, Chaska Herald and the Mint the last two weeks and I will be
doing an insert in this week's Villager looking for additional workers.
It is a wait and see game at this point with the weather. Until cold temperatures
arrive, we'll just have to wait and enjoy the warm weather.
