South Lotus Lake Park Boat Access Gatehouse
The South Lotus Lake Park gatehouse was installed in the mid 80's concurrent
with the opening of the public boat access. In those early years, the gatehouse was
staffed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days a week. Over the years,
attendant hours were steadily cut back. During the summer of 1997, the last year
attendants were hired, the gatehouse was staffed from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. weekday
evenings, and from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekends. In 1998, Lake Ann
Park entry fees were eliminated. Following suit, the Lake Ann gatehouse and
attendant program were eliminated. Without an employee pool of gate attendants,
shifts at the South Lotus Lake Boat Access gatehouse were eliminated as well.
My question to the Commission is this. What do you recommend the City do with
the South Lotus Lake boat access gatehouse and gate attendant program? Three
choices are obvious:
Dispose of the gatehouse.
Leave the gatehouse intact and do not hire attendants.
Leave the gatehouse intact and hire 1999 attendants
(no dollars are currently allocated in the 1999 budget).
