Summer Program Update
Summer Discovery Playground Pro.ram
The 1999 Summer Discovery Playground Program began the week of June 14.
This year's sites include the following parks: City Center, Chanhassen Hills, Curry
Farms, North Lotus, Stone Creek, Pheasant Hills, Sunset Ridge, Rice Marsh,
Carver Beach and Lake Susan. Overall, the program has over 350 participants
enrolled! The Meadow Green and Roundhouse sites were cancelled due to low
enrollment.
Elizabeth Weber has returned as our Playground Director and has been helpful in
getting me familiar with the program's operations. We had a staffing shortage this
year which has forced us to set some registration maximums at some of our sites.
Elizabeth and I will continue to seek additional help and do what is necessary to
make sure that our playground sites are safe for all participants involved.
Tennis
Our summer tennis program also began the week of June 14. We are running four
lessons at City Center Park and four lessons at Lake Susan Park. For the most
part, enrollment has been strong in most of the age categories. I would look at
adding more sites and more lesson opportunities for the 8-12 age group next year.
The second session of lessons will begin the week of July 12.
