Petersen, Recreation Supervisor DATE: Februa~ 15, 2000 SUB J: 2000 February Festival Evaluation Food and Drink Concessions The Chanhassen Lions served and operated the concessions at this year's festival. With the warm weather, the Lions had a great day of selling items. I would invite them back to next year's festival if they are interested. The only concern [ had xvith the concessions was the occasional "long" lines. Perhaps by creating more than one entrance/exit into the tent, we could alleviate this problem for next year. Bonfire Although the weather was wan,'n, the bonfires were still used quite consistently throughout the day. I would recommend continuing this activity for next year. S'more Cookout/Bait Sale The Chanhassen Boy Scouts sold s'more kits and bait al this year's festivai. They were extremely successful in the selling of both of these items. I would recommend invitSng them back in a similar capacity next year. Skafinl~ Rink The park maintenance staffdid a nice job in creating a skating rink for participants to use. It is a nice family activity to offer and it is an added event for the kids to participate in. I would recommend that we continue to provide the rink for future festivals. Sliding Hill The sliding hill was quite popular this year. Again, it is a great activity to have in addition to the fishing contest. I would recommend that the sliding hill be incorporated into next year's Feb Fest. Medallion Hunt The Friends of the Library developed the clues for this year's medallion hunt. The hunt seemed to draw the attention of quite a few teenage kids and families. I think the large clues that were posted on the easel by the prize board were a great attraction and engaged people in the activity. I also think that having KSMM personnel announce the clues was helpful to the event's success. The City o£ Chanhasse,. A e~r:er o/,e:r z~ Jim's: ~,'/.'~ ,m~ z~g~ The Friends of the Library are interested in pursuing the medallion hunt on a larger scale next year. City staff will work with the Friends of the Library to discuss this in more detail prior to next year's event. KSMM Radio KSMM Radio provided live radio coverage and emcee/announcement duties for this year's event. I was pleased with their work and would highly recommend having them back next year. They provide an added element of excitement to the event. Ice Fishing Contest A total of 1,094 tickets were sold for the contest. 325 tickets were sold through advance sales and 769 were sold the day o£the event. Ticket sales were up by 199 tickets from 1999. The contest went smoothly and there were many fish caught! General Comments/Suggestions · Continue to have KSMM serve as emcee and provide live radio coverage from the event. · We announced door prize name/ticket number winners this year for the first time. I thought this was an added service and would recommend we continue the tradition for next year. · Continue to look for new activities to complement the fishing contest. There are many kids who attend the event and it would be nice to provide some activities, contests, etc. for their enjoyment. · Label the door prizes on the master list with a number that corresponds with the prize (#1, #2, etc.) to make it easier for prize board volunteers to disperse prizes. Provide better signage where tickets are being sold. Attempt to secure wires so participants are not tripping or walking with their skates over cords.
