MEMORANDUM
TO:
FROM:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Recreation Director
Dale Gregory, Park Superintendent ,'2.~
DATE: June 20, 2000
SUBJECT: Park and Trail Maintenance Report
Summer is in full swing with lawn mowing, softball, soccer, and the opening of the
swimming beach. The park maintenance crew has been concentrating mostly on
general park maintenance duties such as mowing, fertilizing and spraying of weeds.
We have just completed the second application of fertilizer on all of our ball fields
and soccer fields. This year we have had considerably more complaints on thistles
and weeds in the "no-mow" areas of some of the parks. We have been
concentrating on spraying these areas, however, it has been a challenge to
complete this with all the rainfall we have had this season. To assist with our weed
whipping all fence lines have also been sprayed to kill the weeds.
As of the middle of June, all fifteen seasonal employees are at work doing the day-
to-day maintenance work. This will free up the full time personnel to work on the
extra jobs. City Center and Bandimcre Park both turned out to be very nice
additions to the park system that get a lot of use. We just received the foul ball
nets that go on the backstops for Bandimere. These nets were installed on June
The park shed at Lake Ann Park has been removed and plans for the new shed
continue to move forward.
