2000 Summer Softball Evaluation
The number of teams in Chanhassen's adult softball league increased from
42 to 49 teams this year. Softball across the Twin Cities is declining, however,
we were able to add a few more teams. I will continue to look at new ways to add
additional teams to our leagues.
Corporate League
Th.e Corporate League had 8 teams this year compared to 7 last year. Overall. the
Corporate League was satisfied with the league. We have a solid base of talent,
and with new industry and businesses moving into town, the league hopefully will
increase.
Women's League
This year Chanhassen and Eden Prairie combined their Women's Leagues. Both
Women's Leagues have had low registration numbers in the past, so the two
leagues were combined. Feedback from the teams has been very positive. Teams
were categorized by their previous years record and placed with teams of equal
talent and ability. Games were played at Round Lake and Lake Ann every week
and teams generally alternated locations from week to week. I would be
interested in combining leagues again with Eden Prairie. The league was a great
Success.
Over 40
This league had 7 teams this year, which created byes in the schedule. It has been
challenging, at times, to find and retain umpires. The players and managers have
been known to voice their opinions and concerns about the quality of our umpires.
However, I believe we have found the perfect umpire to handle the
Over 40 league, and he sounds like he would love to come back next year again.
The numbers will continue to dwindle because the gentlemen are getting older.
One by one the teams are dropping and new teams are not signing up. Eventually,

the Over 40 league will not have enough teams to continue, and another league
will be offered to fill the void.
Men's Open
The Men's Open league has continued to be our most popular league. We had 15
teams this year. The open eligibility rule really has helped the Men's Open
League the most. The interest remains the highest in the lower division where
teams feel they can compete. The league continues to flourish and should stay
healthy.
Co-Rec
The Co-Rec League increased from 4 to 6 teams. Hopefully, increased interest in
this league will continue. Most of the teams playing in the league are there to
have fun and to socialize, which will continue to be the main focus.
General Comments:
· Improve umpires knowledge of rules and policies.
· Try not to schedule 9:00 p.m. games.
· Play rain-out/make-up games on regularly scheduled playing night - not on
weekends.
· Continue to schedule an extra game for teams, eliminating byes.
· Find and train more umpires.
· Have umpires get the game balls from the concession shelter at Lake Ann for
each game instead of manager's bringing them.
· Continue using the weather line to update status of game by 3:30 p.m.
· Change t-shirt design for first and second place teams.
· Teams were very happy with open eligibility.
· Investigate adding double-header league.
· Investigate the possibility of adding warning track.
