Tree Lighting Evaluation
This year's Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony was held on Saturday, December 2
from 5-6 p.m. The tree was officially turned on by Brian Beniek at 5:30 p.m. It is
estimated that there were 125-150 people in attendance at the event.
Refreshments
Nancy Lipinski was responsible for obtaining donations of food and drink from
local organizations in the community. The contributing organizations were:
Applebee's Grill & Bar, Chanhassen Inn, Velvet Green Coffee & Tea, Festival
Foods and Chapel Hill Academy. The City purchased some candy canes for the
young children in attendance. All refi'eshments were served in the Senior Center.
Bonfire
The Parks Maintenance staff set up a wonderful, warm bonfire area for all to
enjoy. Students from Chapel Hill Academy led songs around the bonfire before
the tree was lit. With the cold wind that was in the air, this was a welcome
addition to have at the event.
Santa Claus
Brian Beniek played Santa once again this year! He did a great job. He arrived by
fire truck with sirens and red flashing lights! He entertained the crowd with
songs, singing and candy canes.
Other Comments
With the event being attended by so many kids, I would recommend that all
components of the event be kept simple and short. With the weather that we have
been having in December, it is hard to gauge what type of activities would be
suitable for this event. Overall, I think the event went well and that continuing
with similar activities would be appropriate for next year.
