The city has been contracting with WI iCS since 1990 lbr these services. Staff has star,ed to see increased inqui;'es and participation in lhe programs offered. The winter numbers xxcre not huge, but we did have participation in programs sponsored bv WHCS. We alsu arranged tbr inclusion services !bt three children to participate in g3mnastics, ice skating, and basketball. I have ah'eadv had conversations with two difl~renl fim~ilies to Provide inclusion ser¥ices fi)r lheir children tbr spring aclivilies. The parents I have had conversations with have been thrilled that these special inclusion services are available for their children to participate in activities with their siblings and friends. 1 predict our nul'rfl:~ers will increase as people participate and with word of mouth and constant advertising. We are definitely picking up momentum. It makes sense that the majority of our participation level has been with children and not adults. We are such a young community and as our population base continues to age, our numbers will increase in the adult categories. Noxv that I'n'l the main contact and responsible tbr arranging the inclusion services, I have seen first hand that we are making a difl'erence in these children's lives. They feel so good about themselves that they are able to participate just like everyone else. RECOMMENDATION It is staff's recommendation that the Park and Recreation Commission approve the 2001 contract with WHCS to provide adaptive recreation services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The contract amount is $2727.00 and this amount has been budgeted in the 2001 recreation budget.
