2001 Halloween Party Evaluation
The annual Halloween Party, held on October 27, 2001 at the Chanhassen
Recreation Center, was a great success. Over 700 kids and parents enjoyed an
evening of entertainment, games, refreshments, trick-or-treating, and hay rides.
The following are general comments I have regarding the components of this
event.
Hay Rides
· Two hayracks seemed to work well within the time frame of the event.
Lines for a ride were no longer than 5 minutes in length.
· In order to make the hay rides more visible consider using the grass area in
front of the Rec. Center.
Musical Entertainment
· The Touch of Magic "Kit & Kaboodle" shows were a big hit.
· Having the entertainment use a sound system this year allowed the crowd
to hear them over all the background noise.
· Allowing the entertainment to have the entire gym seemed to work well
for both the entertainment group and the audience.
Face Painting
· Having the face painters in the back comer of the school gym provided
for overall better traffic and line control.
· Three face painters seemed to work well. Lines were never out of
control.
Refreshments
· Continue using rooms 3 & 4 for refreshments.
· Having four different cookie selections seemed to work well.
· Continue to have ample volunteers to keep this room clean and moving
smoothly.
· To make these rooms a little more festive we could possibly play some
Halloween music in the background.
Games
· The use of the school gym for the games worked well. It helped keep the
traffic flowing.
· Having an ample number of volunteers is crucial to running the games
smoothly.
Volunteers/CRC Staff
· The use of Boy Scouts, Chaska High School Key Club, Park & Recreation
Commissioners, and local business volunteers were key to the success of
this event.
· Coordinating event registration, setup and clean up with the Recreation
Center staff is key to running a successful event.
General Comments
· The lobby set-up for walk-in registrations worked well and assisted in
alleviating any initial congestion at the event.
· Having the "scary room' in rooms 1 and 2 allowed participants to enter
this activity immediately upon arrival to the Recreation Center.
· Continue using the school gym for games.
· Although, the event was shortened by a V2 people still had a significant
amount of time to do everything they wanted.
· Pizza seemed to be a big hit this year with the volunteers. Since we ran a
little short this year we will need to order about 12 pizzas next year.
· Include eligible ages on the kids candy guess.
