REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
MAY 25, 2004
Acting Chair Spizale called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Jack Spizale, Kevin Dillon, Ann Murphy, Steve Scharfenberg,
and Paula Atkins
MEMBERS ABSENT: Glenn Stolar and Tom Kelly
STAFF PRESENT: Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Dillon moved, Scharfenberg seconded to approve the
agenda as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a
vote of 5 to 0.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Todd Hoffman announced that the Farmers Market will be opening on Saturday, June
5th.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS: None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Dillon moved, Murphy seconded to approve the Minutes
of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated April 27, 2004 as presented. All
voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to 0.
REVIEW PROPOSED 2005-2009
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (CIPL
PARK AND TRAIL CAPITAL
Todd Hoffman presented the staff report on this item. Commissioner Dillon asked if the
playground replacements slated for 2 to 3 years out should be done sooner because of
liability issues and possibly moving up the park shelter/warming house slated for City
Center Park. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked if replacement of pea gravel with poured
in place surfaces at playground structures was part of the CIP program and if there's a
need for the city to build additional ballfields. Commissioner Atkins asked for an update
on the issues brought up by Jack Jensen regarding ballfield usage, combining park
equipment, Round House Park equipment, lighting the sledding hill at Power Hill Park,
and she agreed with moving the schedule up for the park shelter/warming house at City
Center Park. Commissioner Murphy concurred with the need for a park shelter/warming
house at City Center Park and brought up the issue of locating a dog park in the city.
Commissioner Spizale favored playground replacement being done sooner than later.
Park and Rec Commission Summary - May 25, 2004
Commissioner Dillon asked for an update on the suggestion by City Council that wine be
permitted in parks, the fitness center application and Miracles for Mitch Triathlon.

2004 SUMMER PROGRAMS AND 2004 LAKE ANN PARK OPERATIONS.

Scharfenberg moved, Murphy seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor
and the motion carried. The Park and Recreation Commission meeting was
adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
