REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
OCTOBER 26, 2004
Chairman Stolar called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Glenn Stolar, Jack Spizale, Steve Scharfenberg, Paula Atkins,
and Kevin Dillon
MEMBERS ABSENT: Ann Murphy and Tom Kelly
STAFF PRESENT: Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; and Jerry Ruegemer,
Recreation Superintendent
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Todd Hoffman asked to include item 4(a), a listing of
both complaints and compliment reports received over the summer.
Scharfenberg moved, Dillon seconded to approve the agenda as amended. All voted
in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to o.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS: None.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
JIM BLED SA W. CHANHASSEN FARMERS MARKET.
Jim Bledsaw provided an update on the Chanhassen farmers market and reviewed the
revenues and expenditures for the first year. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked Mr.
Bledsaw to explain changes planned for next year. Commissioner Atkins asked for
clarification on the $100 a month fee for use of the park, if they are set to go for next year
with insurance and vendors, etc and suggested more signage for next year.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Spizale moved, Dillon seconded to approve the
verbatim and summary minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission dated
September 28, 2004 as submitted. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
2005 MIRACLES OF MITCH TRIATHLON.
Jerry Ruegemer presented the evaluation of the 2004 event and outlined changes for the
2005 event. Chairman Stolar suggested when the commission gets into the details,
looking at the issue of placing a capacity limit.
Spizale moved, Dillon seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission
recommend that the City Council approve the date for the Miracles Kids Triathlon
Park and Rec Commission Summary - October 26, 2004
for Saturday, August 20, 2005 at Lake Ann Park. All voted in favor and the motion
carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to o.
REPORTS: RECREATION PROGRAMS.
2004 PICNIC SITE EVALUATION. Jerry Ruegemer presented the staff report on this
item. Chairman Stolar asked about information available on the city's web site, if people
could make reservations on the web and how difficult to was to collect the data.
2004 HALLOWEEN PARTY. Jerry Ruegemer provided an update on the upcoming
Halloween Party and asked that all volunteers arrive at the Rec Center at about 5:00 for
pIzza.
ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY. Jerry Ruegemer presented this item as
an FYI for commission member to mark down the date of Saturday, December 4th at 5: 00
for the annual tree lighting ceremony.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS.
Todd Hoffman read a sampling of the types of calls staff received during the summer.
Chairman Stolar directed staff to prepare a draft of a survey for the 4th of July business
fair. Todd Hoffman stated the city manager and mayor have asked that the Park and
Recreation Commission look into dealing with memorial donations and memorial
naming, specifically a policy.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORT.
The committee on the dog park has not met yet. Todd Hoffman informed the
commission that there is great interest at the county board level with discussions from
both sides, pro and con. Chairman Stolar reminded commissioners that the December
meeting would be on the second Tuesday of the month, December 14th.
ADMINISTRA TIVE PACKET.
Todd Hoffman pointed out information on Herman Field Park in the comprehensive plan.
Atkins moved, Spizale seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried unanimously. The Park and Recreation Commission meeting was
adjourned.
