MEMORANDUM
TO:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Recreation Director
FROM:
Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent
DATE:

SUBJ:
Miracles of Mitch Triathlon
Last October, the Park and Recreation Commission and the City Council reviewed
and approved the Public Gathering Permit for the Miracles of Mitch Triathlon. This
year's event is being moved from Sunday to Saturday morning. The Triathlon will
be held Saturday, August 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Lake Ann Park.
Last year's inaugural race hosted 300 kids and this year's goal, according to race
coordinator Tony Schiller, is 800 kids. The event will include swimming, biking,
and running.
In an effort to provide a safe and successful event, the City and Carver County
Sheriff's Department met with Tony Schiller to discuss the event details. The picnic
areas and general park area at Lake Ann Park have already been reserved for the
event. The following conditions will also be met by the race committee:
1. They will provide a safe race course within safety cones throughout Lake
Ann Park.
2. The necessary road closure signs will be obtained by the race committee for
the course.
3. Gopher State One Call must be notified to locate utilities at least 48 hours
prior to driving stakes into the ground.
4. The race committee will provide additional bathrooms as needed.
5. The race committee will have a parking coordinator to make sure interior
traffic within the park flows smoothly. The coordinator will also maximize
all available parking spots within Lake Ann Park. The race committee is
working on additional options for parking and this will include talking to
Eckankar to obtain permission to use their new parking lot off of West 78th
Street.
