Reach Bids Mary Perkins Farewell and
Welcomes Kate Bottiger
New Executive Director
Executive Director, Mary Perkins will retire from her post effective August 14, 2014. Mary
has served Reach for Resources as its Executive for, bver 30 years and shepherded the organi-
zation from its infancy as a tiny 2 person service center 30 years ago to the multifaceted, multi
dimensional agency that Reach for Resources is today.
Patrick Boley, President of the Board of Directors says "It has been my pleasure to work
With Mary and to see all the special qualities she has brought to Reach: a sharp, creative
intellect; an entrepreneurial spirit; hard - boiled pragmatism; and high ideals. Often
overlooked, despite its enormity, is Mary's great big heart. A big reason for Reach's success in
touching the lives of so many people is the totality of Mary's vision, which has at its source a
deep compassion for the lives of others.
If, when my retirement arrives, I can say I achieved even a
fraction of the good Mary has done for the world, I will consider my career to have been
great success."
Mary says "I am so grateful for all of the people I have met, the many experiences I
have had and the incredible opportunities I have been given to serve our community of
people with disabilities and their families," Mary states. It has been such an honor to be a part
of the growth, change and successes in the lives of so many individuals and families impacted
by disabilities. As 1 continue on my journey I wish all of you the very best and will keep you
close in my heart."
Mary will retire from the executive leadership position but will retain a small part time
role as Reach's clinical social worker and SNBC supervisor. Please
join us in honoring and thanking her for her many years of service
at a beverage and hors d'oeuvre reception at Eisenhower
Community Center from 5 - 7PM on Thursday, August 14th. W,
Join us in welcoming the new Executive Director, Kate,
Bottiger. Kate comes to us as an established non - profit leader with
a wide array of experiences serving people with disabilities. She
received her undergraduate degree from the University of
Minnesota and recently completed an MBA from Bethel University.
For 21 years Kate worked at Hammer Residences, a premier
organization for people with intellectual disabilities. There she worked in several roles including
Program Director, the Director of Volunteer Administration and as a member of their Executive
Team. (Continued on page two.)

"I am excited to be working with Reach for Resources. I am passionate about working with
individuals with disabilities, making sure they are living a quality life that they choose- as
independently as possible, with the resources they need to do so. During my professional experiences, I have been able to
witness many aspects of the non - profit business and see first -hand how each role is a vital part of the whole organization. I

This summer REACH for Resources launched the Teen Buddies Program. This program has been such a success that
it will continue in the fall quarter. The Teen Explorers enjoyed making new friends while participating in various
summer adventures and the Buddies had a great time meeting the Teen Explorers. One of the Buddies described
this opportunity as, "...a fun way to meet new people and volunteer. It does not feel like volunteering at all. I am
there just having fun with everyone else!"
If you are a teen interested in a unique volunteer opportunity and want to give back to your community this fall
contact Kirsten at 952- 988 -5321. You will be signing up to "Be a Buddy" to a teen with a disability enrolled in a
REACH recreation program. The goal is to have fun, make new friends, and be a part of new inclusion experience.
If you are a teen with a disability and interested and joining a REACH recreation program and being matched
with a buddy contact Kirsten for more information at 952- 988 -5321,
