MEMORANDUM
TO: Planning Commission
FROM: Sharmeen Al -Jaff, Senior Planner
DATE: February 3, 2015 Q(<CP
SUBJ: Ordinance Amending Chapter 20, Zoning
"The Chanhassen Planning Commission recommends the City Council approve
the ordinance amending Section 20 -258 (7) of the Chanhassen City Code to
permit the sale of wine on golf courses located within the Agricultural Estate
District (A -2)."
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The applicant is requesting an amendment to the zoning ordinance to allow the sale of
wine at golf courses. Golf courses are permitted in the Agricultural Estate District
(A2) as a Conditional Use. The current standards addressing golf courses limits the
establishment to a 3.2 malt liquor license.
The city received a request from Bluff Creek Golf Course to amend the ordinance to
allow the sale of wine at golf courses. The current ordinance permits a 3.2 percent
malt liquor license if the applicant receives approval in accordance with city code.
Bluff Creek Golf Course offers men's and women's golf leagues. Their patrons have
made a request of the establishment to sell wine. Through discussions with the
applicant, staff explained that an ordinance amendment must be approved by the city
to allow the sale of wine on golf courses.
