REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
JANUARY 27, 2015
The Park and Recreation Commission met in a round table discussion with baseball
associations prior to Chair Kelly calling the regular meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Cole Kelly, Steve Scharfenberg, Brent Carron, Jim Boettcher, Rick
Echternacht, and Tyler Kobilarcsik
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Luke Thunberg and Jacob Stolar
PUBLIC PRESENT:
Scott Lhotka Shakopee
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
The agenda was approved as presented.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Todd Hoffman announced that the ice skating rinks were
presently closed due to the warm weather conditions but noted that the February Festival is still

scheduled for February 7. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked for an update on Feb Fest tickets.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS.
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Carron moved, Echternacht seconded to approve the
verbatim and summary Minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated
November 24, 2014 as presented.
RECOMMENDATION TO APPROVE 2015/2016 LAKE ANN BEACH LIFEGUARD
CONTRACT; MINNETONKA COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND SERVICES.
Jerry Ruegemer presented the staff report on this item. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked Scott
Lhotka with Minnetonka Schools to comment on new legislation with respect to pools and
lifeguards. Chair Kelly asked if there were any changes to the contract other than the additional
hours and associated costs. Noting this is the longest standing recreation services agreement that
the City has, Todd Hoffman asked Scott Lhotka to thank everyone at Minnetonka Community
Education.
2015 FEBRUARY FESTIVAL PREVIEW REPORT.
Jerry Ruegemer outlined the schedule

of events for the February Festival being held on Saturday, February 7 at Lake Ann. Chairman
Kelly asked if the previous issues with the DJ and the sound system had been addressed.
Commissioner Boettcher suggested signage clarifying the hours for door prize ticket sales.

Commissioner Carron asked about the PA
system for the Easter Egg Candy Hunt.
ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET.
Chair Kelly pointed out that the Park and Recreation
Commission By-laws that were included in the packet will be updated if needed at the April
meeting.
2014/2015 OUTDOOR SKATING/HOCKEY RINK UPDATE.
Jerry Ruegemer provided an
update on the condition of the outdoor skating and hockey rinks.
Carron moved, Echternacht seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission
meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
