rod and reel, tip-up, and power ice auger, checking depths, and fish house displays.
This was very popular and added another activity that complimented the event. Staff
looks forward to working with the foundation in the future.
Medallion Hunt
This year city staff, with assistance from the Friends of the Chanhassen Library,
organized the annual Medallion Hunt Daily clues were posted at several locations
throughout the city during the week leading up to Feb Fest, and the medallion was
found on Tuesday afternoon The winners received a gift basket from the Friends of
the Chanhassen Library valued at over$500 It is recommended that we continue the
medallion hunt in the same capacity next year, as it creates an exciting buzz the week
leading up to the event Additionally, we intend to rework the clues in the hopes of
making the medallion more difficult to find
Ice Fishing Contest
A total of 701 fishing tickets were sold for the contest, 79 tickets were sold in
advance and 662 were sold on the ice at the event Ticket sales were up by 183 over
last year Over$6,000 in prizes were to be awarded for the top 50 fish caught by
weight, however, only 28 fish were caught and therefore the remaining 22 fish prizes
were given away as door prizes. Overall, the contest went very well, with the
winning fish being a 0 15 lb yellow perch
Door Prizes
The door prize format continues to be separate from the fishing contest Everyone in
attendance received a free door prize ticket when they entered the event, for a chance
to win over$3,000 in prizes The Chanhassen High School Key Club and city staff
provided volunteers to sell fishing tickets and distribute door prize tickets on the ice.
They were very helpful and staff would like to publicly recognize them for their
efforts.
General Comments/Suggestions
• Train multiple people on the computer system to input and sort data in order to
get the results out as quickly as possible during the contest
• Have volunteers work from 10 am —3 p m , and remind them to dress
appropriately for the weather conditions.
• The Chanhassen Rotary again volunteered to drill over 1,000 holes for the ice
fishing contest. This was very generous and they are important to the success of
Feb Fest
• Continue to offer a smaller ice fishing contest area of 600 ft x 300 ft.,but move it
20 ft. to the south to get into shallower water
• Rebuild the steel bonfire pits to prevent slippery conditions and eliminate sharp
edges
• Investigate options to offer dog sled rides
