PRC SUM 2015 03 24 CHANHASSEN PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY MINUTES MARCH 24, 2015 Chairman Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Cole Kelly, Steve Scharfenberg, Jim Boettcher, Rick Echternacht, Luke Thunberg, and Tyler Kobilarcsik. Jacob Stolar arrived later in the meeting. MEMBERS ABSENT: Brent Carron STAFF PRESENT: Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Katie Favro, Program Specialist; Adam Beers, Park Superintendent; Jodi Sarles, Rec Center Manager, and Susan Bill, Senior Center Coordinator PUBLIC PRESENT: Dennis Cruikshank 8320 Allegheny Grove, Victoria Geraint Powell 548 Greenview Angie Quinn 7762 Madelyn Creek, Victoria Ted Ellefson 7609 Walnut Curve Todd Neils 990 Saddlebrook APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Todd Hoffman asked commission members and guests in the nd audience to save the date Saturday, May 2, 9:00 a.m. at Chanhassen Hills Park for Arbor Day tree plantings, and discussed topics for the joint meeting with City Council scheduled for th Monday, April 27 before introducing Katie Favro, the City’s new program specialist. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS. None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: None. CHANHASSEN ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION PROPOSED DONATION OF BALL FIELD ENHANCEMENT. Todd Hoffman presented the staff report on this item. Commissioner Boettcher asked about cost associated with fence pegs at Lake Ann Park. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked about the number of sprinkler heads that would have to be moved. Chairman Kelly asked about the timeline for construction of these projects. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked about challenges with running power to the scoreboards and asked for feedback from Todd Neils and the Chanhassen Athletic Association in regards to the conditions outlined by the City. Chair Kelly asked about the City’s insurance coverage. After discussion and comments from commission members, the following motion was made. Park and Recreation Commission Summary – March 24, 2015 Scharfenberg moved, Thunberg seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission recommends that the City Council accept the donation of Lake Susan Park ball field scoreboard, Lake Ann Park ball field scoreboards Fields #2 and #3, dugout concrete for Lake Ann Park Fields #1, #2, and #3, and labor to assist with infield improvements at the Chanhassen Recreation Center/Bluff Creek Elementary School with the conditions noted. All voted in favor, except Chair Kelly who opposed, and the motion carried with a vote of 6 to 1. PARK & TRAIL MAINTENANCE REPORT. Adam Beers reported on work that’s been done to date and upcoming spring projects. Commissioner Boettcher commented on the park shelter at Sugarbush Park. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked if there were any big projects scheduled for this summer. Adam Beers stated that completion of the park shelters will keep them busy. SENIOR CENTER REPORT. Sue Bill reported on activities and programs being offered at the Senior Center. RECREATION CENTER REPORT. Jodi Sarles provided an update on activities and programs being offered at the Recreation Center. RECREATION PROGRAMS: 2014/15 ICE SKATING/HOCKEY RINK EVALUATION. Todd Hoffman reviewed the ice skating season and thanked Adam Beers and his staff for their work maintaining the rinks. Chairman Kelly asked about the low numbers at Roundhouse Park. Todd Hoffman suggested meeting with the neighborhood to discuss the master park plan for Roundhouse Park to see if it’s still relevant. nd 2015 EASTER EGG CANDY HUNT. Kate Favro provided information on the 32 Annual th Easter Egg Candy Hunt that will be held on Saturday, April 4 at City Center Park. COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS. None. COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS. Chair Kelly thanked Tyler Kobilarcsik and Jacob Stolar for their time on the Park and Recreation Commission. ADMINISTRATIVE SECTION. Todd Hoffman asked for feedback on the upcoming joint meeting with the City Council. Steve Scharfenberg announced that the Chanhassen Red Birds th Rally will be held on Saturday, April 11 at the America Legion. Stolar moved, Kobilarcsik seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 7 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission meeting was adjourned.
