RECREATION COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
MAY 27, 2015
The Park and Recreation Commission met at Bandimere Park expansion site prior to the
regular meeting. Vice Chair Carron called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Steve Scharfenberg, Brent Carron, Jim Boettcher, Rick Echternacht,
Jennifer Hougham, and Lauren Dale
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Cole Kelly and Luke Thunberg
STAFF PRESENT:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation
Superintendent; and Katie Favro, Recreation Supervisor
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Scharfenberg moved, Boettcher seconded to approve the
agenda as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of
6 to 0.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Todd Hoffman acknowledged the Chanhassen American
Legion 580 for hosting the Memorial Day ceremony. Commissioner Scharfenberg noted that

Friday, May 29 is the Chanhassen Red Birds home opener and asked people to buy tickets for
th
the Town Ball Classic being held at Target Field on Saturday, June 27.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS.
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Scharfenberg moved, Echternacht seconded to approve the
verbatim and summary Minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated
April 28, 2015 as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a
vote of 6 to 0.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT DISCUSSION FOR FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS AT
BANDIMERE COMMUNITY PARK, AMY BOWER, HOISINGTON KOEGLER
GROUP, INC.
Todd Hoffman introduced Amy Bower from Hoisington Koegler Group, Inc. who reviewed the
details and associated costs for proposed improvements. Commissioner Echternacht asked if the
concrete pad at the hockey rink was adequate to handle a warming house. Vice Chair Carron
asked about the use of concrete versus asphalt for the hockey rink. In discussing the tennis
courts Commissioner Scharfenberg asked if it was possible to have one tennis court and two
pickleball courts versus two tennis courts. Vice Chair Carron asked for clarification on the cost
for lighting. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked about getting a cost estimate for building the
shelter without the bathrooms and kitchen.

SUMMER CONCERT SERIES/AMPHITHEATRE SURVEY.
Jerry Ruegemer presented
the staff report on this item. Commissioner Echternacht asked about suggesting Minnewashta
Regional Park and the Arboretum as possible sites for an amphitheater. Commissioner Hougham
asked about feedback from KleinBank regarding a possible amphitheater and it’s location.
There was a mechanical problem at this point and a portion of the meeting was not
recorded.
RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS:
LAKE ANN PARK SUMMER SCHEDULE.
Jerry Ruegemer reviewed the schedule of
summer events being offered at Lake Ann Park.
2015 SUMMER PROGRAMS.
Kate Favro reviewed the list of summer programs being
offered. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked if Safe Kids 101 was the same as Safety Camp and
if the City has ever offered firearm training through the park and rec department. Todd Hoffman
explained why the City has not offered firearms training in the past.
SELF-SUPPORTING PROGRAMS: 2015 ADULT SOFTBALL REPORT.
Jerry
Ruegemer provided the report on the 2015 adult softball leagues. Vice Chair Carron asked why
there are two divisions on Thursday night. Commissioner Hougham asked how an individual
can get on a team.

COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS.

ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET.
Todd Hoffman discussed the CAA donation for the
scoreboards, the pickleball courts grand opening, and the Angel of Hope plan moving forward.
Echternacht moved, Boettcher seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission
meeting was adjourned.
