REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
DECEMBER 8, 2015
Chairman Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Cole Kelly, Brent Carron, Jim Boettcher, Rick Echternacht, Jennifer
Hougham and Steve Scharfenberg
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Luke Thunberg, and Lauren Dale
STAFF PRESENT:
Todd Hoffman, Park and Rec Director; Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation
Superintendent; Katie Favro, Recreation Supervisor; Jodi Sarles, Rec Center Manager; Susan
Bill, Senior Center Coordinator; and Adam Beers, Park Superintendent
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
Chairman Kelly approved the agenda with the addition of fitness
trails report under Commission Member Committee Reports by Commissioner Hougham.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS.
None.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS.
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:Boettcher moved, Carron seconded to approve the verbatim
Minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated November 24, 2015 with
changes by Chairman Kelly on pages 7 and 18, and the summary Minutes of the Park and
Recreation Commission meeting dated November 24, 2015 as presented. All voted in favor
and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to 0.
RECREATION PROGRAM REPORTS:
TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY EVALUATION.
Katie Favro presented the evaluation on
th
the Tree Lighting Ceremony held on Saturday, December 5.
RECREATION CENTER REPORT.
Jodi Sarles provided an update on highlights from the
winter programs going on at the Recreation Center. Commissioner Scharfenberg asked about the
impact of the new after school daycare center.
SENIOR CENTER REPORT.
Susan Bill provided an update on activities happening at the
Senior Center.

PARK AND TRAIL MAINTENANCE REPORT.
Adam Beers provided an update on
projects the Park Maintenance Department have been working on and plans for the future when
the snow arrives.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS.
Commissioner Hougham gave a
presentation on fitness trail options at different city parks. Commissioner Scharfenberg
suggested Minnewashta Regional Park as a possible location and partnership with Carver
County. Commissioner Carron asked staff to discuss why the fitness trail was removed from
City Center Park. Chairman Kelly asked Commissioner Hougham to discuss Roundhouse Park
as a possible site. Commissioner Carron asked for research from other cities on the success of
fitness trails in their communities. Commissioner Boettcher, being a member of the Carver
County Park Commission, stated he would bring the issue up to be discussed with their
playground replacement plan.
ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET.
Chairman Kelly commented on the letters written by Jerry
Ruegemer. Todd Hoffman recognized Tom Michel for his retirement after 11 years at the
Chanhassen Recreation Center. Commissioner Boettcher asked the commission members to
keep Dave and Cinda Jensen in their thoughts at this difficult time.
Carron moved, Scharfenberg seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the
motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission
meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
