SUMMARY MINUTES ONLY DUE TO FAULTY EQUIPMENT
Chair Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Steve Scharfenberg, Brent Carron, Luke Thunberg, Jim Boettcher,
Rick Echternacht, Jennifer Hougham, and Lauren Dale
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
STAFF PRESENT: Todd Hoffman, Park and Recreation Director, Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation
Superintendent, Katie Favro, Recreation Supervisor and Adam Beers, Parks Superintendent
PUBLIC PRESENT:

APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Chair Kelly approved the agenda as presented.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS: Jerry Ruegemer gave a verbal update regarding the Luminary
Walk held Friday, February 17, 2017
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS: Ryan Majkrzak and Eric Benson presented the proposal for an
adjustable basketball hoop at Riley Ridge Park. The Riley Ridge neighborhood will pay for the
purchase of the adjustable hoop and donate it to the City of Chanhassen. City park maintenance
crews will remove the existing hoop and replace with the new adjustable hoop. The Park and
Recreation Commission recommended approval of the donation to the City Council. The

donation is scheduled on the March 13 City Council meeting.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Carron moved, Echternacht seconded to approve the verbatim
minutes of the Park and Recreation meeting dated January 24, 2017. All voted in favor and
motion carried unanimously with a vote of 8 to 0
NEIGHBORHOOD PARK SHELTER INITIATIVE.
Adam Beers presented staff report on this item. Quotes were reviewed from Midwest Playscapes,
Northland Recreation and Minnesota Wisconsin Playgrounds Inc.
Hougham moved, Seconded by Carron that the Park and Recreation Commission
recommend that the City Council award the quote for the purchase of shelter structures for
Minnewashta Heights Park, Herman Field Park and South Lotus Lake Park in the amount of
$54,502 to Midwest Playscapes. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a
vote of 8 to 0.

RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL TO AWARD QUOTE FOR JULY 4
FIREWORKS CONTRACT, 2017-2019.
Katie Favro presented the staff report. Quotes were reviewed from Pyrotechnics Display, Inc. and

Precocious Pyrotechnics Inc. for the 2017-2019 4 of July Fireworks display.
Scharfenberg moved, Thunberg seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission
recommends that the City Council award a three year contract (2017-2019) to Pyrotechnic

Display, Inc. for the provision of 4 of July fireworks in the amount of $23,000 per year,
including the addendum prepared by the city attorney. All in favor and the motion carried
unanimously with a vote of 8 to 0.
APPROVE TRAIL WAYFINDING SIGNAGE PROJECT AND CONSIDER FUNDING;
LAUREN DALE GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD PROJECT (POWERPOINT, VERBAL).
Lauren Dale presented her Girl Scout Gold Award Project to the Park and Recreation Commission.
Carron moved, Boettcher seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission recommend
the City Council approve the Trail Wayfinding Signage Project and funding for the project.
All voted in favor and the motion passed unanimously with a vote of 7 to
2017 FEBRUARY FESTIVAL EVALUATION. Katie Favro presented the staff report evaluation
associated with the 2017 February Festival.
DADDY/DAUGHTER SWEETHEART DANCE EVALUATION. Katie Favro presented the
staff report evaluation associated with the 2017 Daddy Daughter Sweetheart Dance.
COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS. None.
COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS. None.
ADMINISTRATION PACKET. The Park and Recreation discussed Brad Morse’s
employment/thank you letter from City Manager, Todd Gerhardt. The Park and Recreation
Commission thanked Brad Morse for his 21 + years of service with the city and wished him the best
of luck in the future.
Carron moved, Thunberg seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion
carried unanimously with a vote of 8 to 0. The Park and Recreation Commission meeting was
adjourned.
