SENIOR COMMISSION MINUTES
REGULAR MEETING
JUNE 15, 2012
Chairwoman Nevin called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Barbara Nevin, Camille Swanson, Carol Buesgens,
Dorina A. Tipton, Terry Grathen, and Thomas Wilson.
MEMBERS ABSENT: None.
STAFF PRESENT: Sharmeen Al-Jaff, Sue Bill.
VISITORS: Katy Boone, Lenny Schmidt.
Commissioner Moe announced that she needed to resign for personal
reasons. The commissioners thanked her for her time and dedication during
the time she served on the commission.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Commissioner Wilson moved to approve the
agenda. Commissioner Tipton seconded the motion to approve the agenda.
All voted in favor and the motion carried.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES DATED April 20, 2012: Commissioner
Grathen move to approve the minutes, Commissioner Wilson seconded the
motion to approve the minutes. All voted in favor and the motion carried.

4 OF JULY BINGO EVENT-BEYOND THE YELLOW RIBBON
DONATION: The commission members will contact businesses in the
city and ask for donations to benefit the wounded warriors.
STATE FAIR- BEYOND THE YELLOW RIBBON: Volunteers are
th
needed for the State Fair on August 28. There are 2 volunteers from
Chaska and 2 from Chanhassen per shift. Chairwoman Nevin and and
Commissioner Swanson will be able to assist on that day. There are three
shifts available:
4 - FIRST SHIFT WORKERS (6 AM - 10 AM):
4 - SECOND SHIFT WORKERS (10 AM - 2 PM):
4 - THIRD SHIFT WORKERS (2 PM - 5 PM PLUS TEARDOWN:
CARFIT: The event was very successful but at a substantially smaller scale
than previous years. It was held at the Chanhassen Fire Station.
Commissioners Swanson, Buesgens, Grathen and Wilson served at
technicians during the event. The commission contemplated if the program
should be offered on yearly bases or less frequently. No decision was made
on the subject.
TRIAD: Chairwoman Nevin and Commissioner Buesgens attended the
meeting on behalf of the City of Chanhassen. These are preliminary
meetings trying to set direction for the taskforce.
Age Well – Drive Well: Promoting Older Driver Safety & Mobility in
Carver County: Carver County is organizing an all day transportation
program under the above heading. The intent is “Promoting Older Driver
Safety & Mobility in Carver County: The event will take place on
Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Buesgens moved, Commissioner Wilson
seconded the motion to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion
carried.
