Dear Mr. Bode:
We are pleased to present the results of the requested double-ring infiltrometer (DRI) testing completed
at the above referenced site in Chanhassen, Minnesota. We completed the requested tests in general
accordance with ASTM International (ASTM) D 3385; Standard Test Method for Infiltration Rate of Soils in
Field Using a Double-Ring Infiltrometer. We also completed observations on a number of test pit
excavations that were also completed within the proposed stormwater/infiltration basins. The two
basins where the testing and test pits were completed were noted as Basins 100 and 200.
The DRI testing and test pit observations were performed in the field by Braun Intertec Corporation
personnel on November 25, 2018, at the approximate locations identified on the attached sketches.
Excavations to reach test elevations were performed by the Contractor provided by the owner. Upon
completion of testing, the excavations were backfilled with excavated spoils and bucket compacted.
DRI Test Results
The results of the DRI testing performed, including graphical representation, are attached to this report
letter. To summarize the results, no infiltration was noted during any of the three tests. Two of the test
locations, DRI-1.2 and DRI-2.2, had groundwater coming up into the excavation. Only one test was able
to be performed in Basin 100 as two of the other proposed DRI test locations filled up with water prior to
being setup, and tests were unable to be completed. Please note, soil infiltration rates will vary with soil
moisture content, the introduction of fine-grained soils, topsoil, filter media, seasonal changes,
compaction of the subgrade, or with changes in localized groundwater levels. This test does not
constitute a review of site suitability for infiltration or evaluate the potential impacts, if any, from
infiltration of large amounts of stormwater. We also note that topsoil, filter media or compaction of the
subgrade can limit the effectiveness of soil infiltration.
