June 26 , 1975
Chanhassen City Hall
The regular meeting of the Bicentennial Commission was called
to order by Walter Hobbs , on June 26 , 1975 , at 8 :00 p.m. The
following members were present: Lyle Ricklefs , Fr. Armand
Lubanski, Richard Lyman, Walter Hobbs , Martin Jones and Mariana
Shulstad. Myrna Kurvers was absent. Dick Dutcher, Bill Bond
and Elton Anderson from the Arboretum were also present.
MINUTES: A motion was made by Fr. Lubanski and seconded by Lyle
Ricklefs to approve the May 29 , 1975 minutes. Motion carried.
CARVER COUNTY FAIR: Martin Jones said that there is a fire
truck and three men available to ride it in the parade in
Waconia, August 14 , 1975 . Fr. Lubanski will check further about
having a booth at the Carver County Fair and will attend the
next meeting of the Carver County Bicentennial Commission.
TREE PLANTING: Richard Lyman quoted some prices from Bailey' s
at Newport for approximately 22 inch diameter, 8 - 12 feet high
trees:

Elton Anderson from the Arboretum thought that the prices were
reasonable. Rich Lyman will check with Cross at Lakeville for
prices and report back in July.
FUND RAISING: There was a discussion of the proposed benefit
at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. Jerry Sandro from the Dinner
Theatre will be asked to attend the next meeting to discuss it

Mariana Shulstad requested that the Bicentennial Commission
%submit to the State Historical Society a request for funding.
OLD VILLAGE HALL: Walter Hobbs will ask the City Council to
provide funds of $350 . so that Schoell and Madson can survey
the Old Village Hall.
At the next meeting, July 24 , the Chamber of Commerce, City
Planner, Planning Commission, City Council, Central Business
District and the Park and Recreation Commission will be invited
to discuss their views on whether or not the Old Village Hall
should be restored on its original site.

CARVER BEACH ASSN: The Carver Beach Association is willing to
help in the removal of abandoned buildings and junk cars and also -�
with some kind of summer fund raiser. Walt Hobbs will talk to
them and help them coordinate.
COMMUNITY BAND: Lyle Ricklefs reported that if we had a
Community Band we could borrow sheet music from the school and
use the school free of charge during the school year. In summer
there would be a $15 . charge for the use of the school.
FLAG POLE DEDICATION: Tentative date set for the dedication of
the flag pole will be July 18 , 1975 , to coincide with Lieutenant
Governor, Rudy Purpich' s appearance in Chanhassen. The Boy
Scouts will be asked to act as Color Guard.
HENNEPIN COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER: Eahc municipality is invited
by Hennepin County to use the Government Center for l-3 days
for displays, exhibits, etc. It was suggested that the Chamber
of Commerce be asked to coordinate this .
FUNDING FROM STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY: There is less than
$125 ,000 in funds available for 1976 from the State Historical
Society.
COMMUNITY SCHOOLS DIRECTORS : Curt Schmid, Chaska Community
Schools Director and Jim Jones , Minnetonka Community Schools
Director will be invited to attend the next meeting to discuss
the American Issues Forum.
A motion was made by Mariana Shulstad and seconded by Martin
Jones to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
The next meeting will be July 24 , 1975 at 7 :30 p.m.
