1976-09-16 minutes Bicentennial Commission
September 16, 1976
Chanhassen City Hall
The special meeting of the Bicentennial Commission was called to order
by co-chairperson Myrna Kurvers on September 9, 1976 at 7:05 PM. The
following members were present: Walter Hobbs, Myrna Kurvers, Martin
Jones, Lyle Ricklefs, and Dick Dutcher. Fr. Armand Lubanski and
Rich Lyman were absent.
Minutes: The minutes of September 9, 1976 were amended to include the
words ". . .at least. . ." between the words "line" and "30" (feet) of the
motion related to the suggested village hall green area boundaries. A
motion was then made by Martin Jones and seconded by Lyle Ricklefs to
approve the September 9, 1976 minutes as amended. Motion carried.
Village Hall: Restoration progress was reviewed. It was noted that
3/4 of the roof had been reshingled, holes in the interior walls filled,
surface-mounted wiring removed and the exterior prime painted.
Several members recounted that their efforts to locate the missing bell
had met with no success. A motion was made by Martin Jones and seconded
by Dick Dutcher to notify the Carver County Sheriff of the missing
bell and contact the Carver County Herald to ask that the newspaper
publicize the fact that the bell had been removed from the old village
hall and its whereabouts was unknown. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Dick Dutcher and seconded by Martin Jones to
authorize ordering the mechanical work portion of the restoration,
provided the cost does not exceed the amount budgeted for such work
in the grant application to the state. Motion carried. Myrna Kurvers
agreed to ask a local heating firm to look at the hall to make recommendations
as to type and size of heating plant.
The question was raised by Myrna Kurvers as to whether a restroom would
have to be constructed. Walt Hobbs agreed to check with the City
Administration on this.
It was noted that a volunteer work party would meet the following
Saturday at 8:00 AM to complete shingling the roof. Previous work
parties on 8/21, 8/28 and 9/11 had brought the work to its present
state of completion.
