REGULAR MEETING
JULY 15, 2011
Chairwoman Nevin called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Barbara Nevin, Virginia Prior, Carol Buesgens,
and Terry Grathen,
MEMBERS ABSENT: Pat McGough, Naomi Moe and Thomas Wilson.
STAFF PRESENT: Sharmeen Al-Jaff.
VISITORS: None.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Commissioner Prior moved to approve the
agenda. Commissioner Grathen seconded the motion to approve the agenda.
All voted in favor and the motion carried.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES DATED JUNE 17, 2011: Commissioner
Buesgens moved to approve the minutes. Commissioner Grathen seconded
the motion with a correction to the Update on 4th of July Activities. All voted
in favor and motion carried.
UDATE ON INTERGENERATIONAL GOAL: Commissioner
McGough contacted staff and reported that Emily Mattran, Career Resource
Manager/Career Specialist, will attend the August 19, 2011 Senior
Commission meeting. She will exchange ideas with the commission.
Chairwoman Nevin pointed out that the 4th of July Bingo activity satisfies
the intergenerational goal. The participants included young kids, teenagers,
parents, seniors, as well as WWII veterans.
UPDATE ON HEALTH BILL FORUM: Staff advertised the Medicare
Forums in the Chanhassen Connection. Due to the fact that the event will start
at 8:30a.m. it is unlikely that SmartLink will provide transportation as this is
their peak hour to provide rides.
The forums will be held from 8:30AM to 12:30PM on:
Tuesday, October 11, 2011 or Wednesday, October 12, 2011

The forum content, speakers, and exhibitors will be the same at both forums.
DINNER WITH THE MAYOR: Dinner with the Mayor will take place at
the Senior Center prior to a concert in the park. The event will take place on
July 21, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. Cost for the event is $8.00.
UPDATE ON 4TH OF JULY ACTIVITIES: the Senior Commission
wanted to thank the City for sponsoring the Bingo event. There were over 300
participants. They included people of all ages. The commission
recommended that a microphone be provided next year. Commissioners that
volunteered for the event include Chairwoman Nevin, Commissioners Prior,
Buesgens, and Grathen.
SENIOR COMMISSION COMMENTS: The Senior Center will be closed
between September 6 and October 10 due to construction in the parking lot.
Commission Prior requested a joint meeting with the Senior Advisory Board
to discuss “Brain Health”.
ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Buesgens moved, Chairwoman Nevin
seconded the motion to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion
carried.
