CHANHASSEN SENIOR COMMISSION
MINUTES
September 17, 2021
MEMBERS PRESENT: Jerry Cerchia, Bhakti Modi, Lisa Lyon, Linda Haight, Jim Camarata,
Susan Kibler, Dorina Tipton, Ruth Lunde.
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
STAFF PRESENT: Sharmeen Al-Jaff, Senior Planner; and Mary Blazanin, Senior Center
Coordinator.
GUESTS PRESENT: Dawn Plumer, Public Health Program Specialist
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Commissioner Camarata moved to approve the Agenda.
Commissioner Lunde seconded the motion. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES DATED AUGUST 20, 2021: Commissioner Haight moved to
approve the minutes. Commissioner Lyon seconded the motion. All voted in favor and the motion
carried.
AGING IN PLACE PLAN CLASSES’ UPDATE: The Senior Center will host Act III: Your
Personal Plan for Aging in Place on October 12. AARP is conducting all their meetings and events
via Zoom.
Twenty one individuals signed up for Basic Tech 101: How Technology Helps You Stay Safe and
Independent and 40+ individuals showed up. The Geek Squad offered that class and they hit on
excellent topics such as safer lifestyle.
SENIOR COMMISSION FUNDRAISING IDEAS: 4TH OF JULY BINGO AND OTHER
ALTERNATIVES
The Senior Commission discussed the topic and chose to continue with the 4th of July Bingo
activity. They discussed potential participation in Feb Fest and Breakfast with Santa as other
options that can be considered.
COMMISSIONERS TO REVIEW STRATEGIC AREA #6 - STRATEGIC AREA:
MAINTAIN AND FOSTER A SENSE OF SAFETY AND SECURITY FOR SENIORS -
GOAL: SAFETY AND SECURITY
The commission discussed multiple classes that are offered through the Senior Center.
Commissioner Tipton introduced the topic of adopting a senior. A subcommittee was formed
including commissioners Tipton, Modi and Camarata to assess and study this topic. Commissioner
Lunde suggested inviting Greg Pavett, Humanity Alliance as a guest speaker at the Commission’s
next meeting.

SENIOR COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Modi stated that she is continuing to make masks and would welcome any fabric that is
suitable for masks.
ADJOURNMENT: Chairman Cerchia called for meeting adjournment. Commissioner Camarata
moved to adjourn; Commissioner Lundet seconded the motion. All voted in favor and the motion
carried.
