Approval requires a simple majority vote of members present SUMMARY The Chanhassen Park and Recreation Department manages 30 community and neighborhood parks totaling 466 acres. These amenities offer area­ residents, employees, and visitors numerous opportunities for active recreation while providing invaluable benefits to the community's physical and mental health. Through the process of developing the Parks and Recreation System Plan, it was determined that maintenance updates need to be made to continue to adequately serve the needs of the community.  A park system inventory and replacement schedule was created while developing the park system plan.  The park maintenance replacement plan identifies recommended updates based on existing equipment/facility conditions. BACKGROUND Chanhassen has been acquiring and constructing community and neighborhood parks for 50 years.  To date, a dedicated fund to finance the repair or replacement of the park equipment, has not been established.  This proposed initiative would establish a park replacement fund at a level of $250,000 per year on average and initiate a prioritized parks replacement schedule. Prepared By Katie Mathews, Parks and Recreation, Recreation Supervisor File No:  SUMMARY The City of Chanhassen is proud to present the 2018 KleinBank Summer Concert Series at City Center Park Plaza. The concert series is in its fourteenth year and will feature nine performances throughout the summer. The first concert will be Thursday, June 14 and continues every Thursday, starting at 7pm until Thursday, August 9th. There is one daytime performance geared toward children and families that will begin at 11am on Thursday, August 2. For each of the performances, the city will be selling concessions including fresh popcorn, candy, and cold beverages. KleinBank of Chanhassen has again agreed to be the title sponsor of the series. Their sponsorship of $2,500 is greatly appreciated and helps off­set expenses for this program. KleinBank will also be providing free water to the audience for each of the performances. For the children's performances, they will be distributing balloons for kids. Staff is pleased with our relationship with KleinBank and appreciates all they have done for this program. Staff continues to explore creative and innovative marketing strategies to promote each performance. Promotional magnets were purchased and will be distributed to spectators at the first few concerts of the season. Posters were also distributed to local businesses in the community for increased exposure. Prepared By Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent File No:  BACKGROUND The summer of 2018 is upon us and brings a sense of excitement along with it. Lake Ann Park plays a vital role in that excitement. The concession/watercraft rental building will be open between Saturday, May 26 and Sunday August 18, seven days per week between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  The concession manager will coordinate work schedules, order supplies, and take care of the day­to­day operations. The revenues from the 2017 season were very strong and it is staff’s goal to continue that momentum. Staff is happy to announce that paddleboards will be available for rent again this summer. The city and Twin City Paddleboard will continue our partnership to provide eight paddleboards. City staff will coordinate all rentals and generated revenue will be shared. Staff has been busy processing picnic requests and many weekends are already booked, however, some openings remain. It is projected that approximately 120+ picnics will be scheduled, which will generate over $16,000 in revenue. The covered shelters at Lake Ann and Lake Susan remain popular.  The beach at Lake Ann is open to the public all summer long between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily.  Lifeguards are scheduled starting on Saturday, June 2. Lifeguards will be on duty between the hours of 11:00 am until 6:00 pm, weather permitting, until August 12th. The city is contracting with Minnetonka Aquatics again this year for the lifeguard services. Prepared By Jerry Ruegemer, Recreation Superintendent File No:  BACKGROUND Monday ­ Men’s Open League This season, the Men’s Open League did not have enough teams registered to form a league.Multiple teams registered and then decided to play in other communities. Eight (8) teams participated last season and the projected lost of revenue for 2018 is $6,500. This year's projected league expenses are $3,560 for an overall impact on the (1700) Self Supporting Budget of $2,940. The Monday night league will be offered again next year. Thursday ­ Men’s Open League The league is playing doubleheader games again this year. Their season was scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 26 but with the late snow storm that occurred, the first week was postponed.The games will be played at a later date. The season will conclude on July 26. League games are played at Lake Ann Park on fields 4, 5, and 6. The Thursday league is a popular night and additional teams could have been accommodated if we had another field to play on.
