A special meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called
to order by Acting Chairman Phyllis Pope on Tuesday, April 15, 1980,
at 7:30 p.m. The following members were present: Ellis Thomas,
Mike Lynch, Mary Muehlhausen, Phyllis Pope and Thomas Schoenecker.
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT BIDS: Tom Schoenecker made a motion to accept
the playground equipment bids as specified in the staff recommendation
for purchase of specific pieces of equipment. Staff was directed to
place orders for the equipment. Mary Muehlhausen seconded the
motion. Motion carried. No negative votes.
NO PARKING SIGNS: Phyllis Pope requested to have no parking signs
installed at Carver Beach as soon as possible.
VITA COURSE: A motion was made by Ellis Thomas and seconded by
Mary Muehlhausen to enter into a joint purchasing agreement with
School District 112 to purchase a Vita Course (jogging) to be installed
at a later date behind the City Hall and Chanhassen Elementary School.
Staff is directed to work with the principal and physical education
people to develop a l~~ut plan and present it to the Commission for
their review. Ayes - Ellis Thomas, Mike Lynch, Phyllis Pope, Mary
Muehlhausen. Tom Schoenecker voted no. Staff was
directed to call the Minneapolis Recreation Department and inquire if
they experienced any problems with their installations.
,.... DRAINAGE PROBLEM AT LAKE ANN: A motion was made by Mike Lynch and
seconded by Tom Schoenecker to have the park maintenance department
proceed with installation of drain tile to alleviate the drainage
problem north of Diamond 3 at Lake Ann Park. Motion unanimously approved.
LEGION PROPOSAL: Ellis Thomas introduced a proposal from the Legion
to have the City take over the scheduling and maintenance of their fi~~d
in return for the City having 1st priority for use after the Legion
team. Staff was directed to investigate legal and other areas and
report at the next meeti.ng.
CHASKA HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Staff was directed to publish the Boys
home schedule which is being played on Chanhassen courts.
LAKE ANN BARN: After much discussion, A motion was made by Mike
Lynch and seconded by Ellis Thomas that the barn in the southwest
corner of Lake Ann Park be removed and a new 12 foot standard pole barn
be installed in an inconspicuous location west of the existing barn.
The new structure shall be natural in color matching the entrance
gate. The old barn shall be removed by the most economical means
and the Chanhassen Fire Department should be the first offer
to remove it. Motion unanimously approved.
5 YEAR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM: The Commission continued work
on revising and upgrading the program.

A motion was made by Mary Muehlhausen and seconded by Ellis T~omas to
adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously approved. Time: 10:35 p.m.
